What to Do in Amsterdam in March

The following list will provide a variety of fun activities in Amsterdam for March.

We include several concerts, sporting events, festivals and other interesting things happening in the city this month.


1. Go to a Concert

No matter when you visit Amsterdam, there are usually at least a few notable musicians performing.

2. Attend a Sporting Event

The month of March is rather quiet sports-wise, but there are some games on tap.

If you enjoy football (American soccer), two teams will have games in the area in March:

3. Visit Rembrandt House

Rembrandt House is devoted to Rembrandt and works hard to bring the 17th century to life.

has recently undergone a renovation which increased museum space by adding a third exhibition hall, an etching attic, a prologue room, and an epilogue room.

There are tutorials showing how Rembrandt mixed his paint and how he created his etchings.

4. Take a Sightseeing Tour

With the weather beginning to warm up, this is the perfect time to go on a sightseeing tour in Amsterdam.

While most tours will require a ticket, there are some free tours and audio guides you can take, which will make it easier to save some money.


5. Save Money With a Tourist Pass

If you’re planning to visit multiple popular attractions while in Amsterdam, you could save 50% or more off admission prices by using a tourist pass.

There are three different types of passes to choose from, each serving a different purpose.

While the all-inclusive pass is excellent for anyone planning at least 4-5 activities per day, a preset package might be better for visitors with limited time.

There is also a museum pass you can use which will grant access to all of the best museums in Amsterdam!

6. Visit Keukenhof Gardens

Looking for a fun way to celebrate the arrival of spring with your family?

Head down to the Keukenhof Tulip Gardens starting on March 20th, 2024 to see one of the finest floral displays in the world.

This park is home to more than 32 hectares of flowers. They plant more than 7 million bulbs each year representing a total of over 800 different types of tulips.

The flowers are arranged in beautiful designs, and there are many different displays to see throughout the park. There are also petting farms, mazes, and a playground for children.

Best of all, this attraction is included with at least one major Amsterdam tourist pass, so you don’t even have to pay full price!

7. Take the Kids to ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo

With spring right around the corner, this would be a great time to take the family to Amsterdam’s zoo.

Here you can see animals such as giraffes, zebras, ostriches, tigers, and more.

In addition to all the mammals, there is a butterfly pavilion, an aquarium, and even a planetarium!

No matter what your scientific interest, chances are you’ll find something to admire at the ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo – and you can even save some money on tickets by using a tourist pass!

8. Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Amsterdam isn't necessarily known for their St. Patrick's Day celebrations, but there are plenty of fun activities that would make sense to enjoy on this holiday.

After all, what better way to celebrate than by visiting the Heineken Experience? Their characteristic green bottles are sure to keep you from getting pinched!

Alternatively, you might want to visit a place like the House of Bols for cocktails or the Xtra Cold Ice Bar.

If the weather is nice, you might also consider going on a cruise with drinks and cheese.

There is also an Amsterdam canal cruise with unlimited drinks.


9. Experience Jazzfest

There’s an entire festival dedicated to jazz in March.

Jazzfest will include performances from dozens of jazz musicians on March 16th.

Some shows are designed specifically for kids, making this an excellent family activity as well.

10. Go to an Art Museum

It’s always a good time to visit one of the many wonderful museums in Amsterdam.

11. See the Cherry Blossoms

For even more springtime fun, consider heading to see the Cherry Blossoms.

400 trees, given by Japan to the Dutch, can be found in Kersenbloesempark.

You can also find them at Wasterpark, Museum Square, Hotel Akura, and throughout the Amsterdam area.

There may even be a Cherry Blossom Festival, one which traditionally takes place at Bloesempark in March.

Cherry Blossoms are truly beautiful and this an experience you won't want to miss.


12. Attend a Film Fest

The Cinedans festival focuses on dance and "movement arts" in film.

Cinedans takes place March 24th-26th at the Eye Filmmuseum (as well as online).

This is it's 20th anniversary, in fact!
