Amsterdam Weather in December

Updated: Dezember 22, 2023

This post is about the weather in Amsterdam during December, including average temperatures, precipitation, and tips on packing and sightseeing activities.

As a retired meteorologist turned tour guide, I didn't expect that I would use my experience as a forecaster in my new career in tourism.

But here I am, finding myself answering more weather questions as a blogger than I ever did as a weatherman.

So, here are answers to some frequently asked questions about the weather in Amsterdam in December.

1. Warm, Waterproof Clothes

With lots of foggy and rainy days, it's best to pack waterproof gear.

A waterproof coat is a good idea, as are waterproof boots. An umbrella is also suggested.

2. Warm Underwear

Thermal underwear and wool socks are suggested to keep warm in Amsterdam in December.

A fleece-lined underlayer like these from ViCherub goes great under long pants and tops.

3. Gloves, Scarf, and a Hat

Accessorizing is a good idea to stay warm. Pack gloves, a scarf, and a hat to protect yourself on windy days.

A warm beanie like this one from OZERO is a good idea and doesn't take up too much space in your luggage.
