The Weather in Dublin in October

Autumn weather in Dublin is quite chilly, with more cloudiness and rain.

However, Dublin is still picturesque this season and the city activities and events are still in full swing. 


Temperature

Daytime high temperatures tend to be near 15 C (59 F) early in October but closer to 12-13 C (54-55 F) by month’s end. 

A few of the warmer afternoons, however, can reach up to around 18 C (about 65 F), especially early in the month. 

The record high temperature in Dublin during October is 21 C (69.8 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will tend to be near 9 C (48-49 F) early in the month but fall to 6-7 C (43-44 F) by month’s end. 

A few of the colder mornings, especially near the end of this month can dip down around 2-3 C (37-38 F). 

The record low temperature in Dublin during October is -3.3 C (26.1 F).

Cloudiness increases this month, however, there will still be about 13 days this month with sunny or at least partly sunny skies. 

You can expect 17 days with some rain, however, only 4 of these will record 5 mm (0.2 inches) or more. 


Daylight

The amount of daylight decreases rapidly during October from about 11.6 hours on the 1st down to 9.5 hours on the 31st.


Windspeed

Wind speeds during October range mostly from gentle at 8-12 mph/12-19 kph to moderate at 13-18 mph/20-28 kph but at times can be fresh at 19–24 mph/29-38 kph.


Ocean Temperatures

Dublin lies along the western edge of the Irish Sea which during October is cold with temperatures averaging 13-14 C (55-57 F).


What to Wear in Dublin in October?

Autumn in Dublin is chilly so best to bring long-sleeve shirts, a few sweaters, warm socks, and water-resistant walking shoes or boots. 

In addition, jeans, or other medium-weight pants along with a medium-weight jacket and some comfortable walking shoes or boots.


Things to Do in Dublin in October

Although there will be more cloudy days and rain in Dublin throughout the month, the days should be warm enough to consider taking a pay-what-you-wish walking tour.

You can also look forward to several great concerts, theatrical performances, and even sporting events this October.

Speaking of Theatre, you might also want to check out the Dublin Theatre Festival which ran from September 29th - October 16th last year. This year the dates will be announced in July 2024.
