HOW HOT IS AMSTERDAM IN AUGUST?

Daytime high temperatures generally are near 22-23 C (71-74 F) early in August but will fall to 20-21 C (68-70 F) near the end of this month. 

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially early in August can reach near 27 C (81 F).

The record high temperature for Amsterdam during August is 34.5 C (94.1 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures tend to be near 14 C (57-58 F) early in the month but will fall to 12-13 C (53-55 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the cooler mornings, especially near the end of the month, can dip down near 9 C (48 F).

The record low temperature for Amsterdam during August is 0 C (32 F).

During August, on average, you should expect about 13 sunny, 4 partly sunny, and 14 mostly cloudy days.

About 11-14 days will record some rainfall, however, only 8-9 days record at least 1 mm (0.04 inches) or more.

The number of daylight hours decreases rapidly this month from about 15.5 hours on the 1st to about 13.7 hours by the 31st. 


Windspeed

During August, wind speeds will be mostly gentle to moderate at 12-28 kph (8-18 mph).

The beaches near Amsterdam are more rugged but offer great photo ops as well as many water sports.

Ocean temperatures tend to be on the cool side during August, mostly 18-19 C (65-66 F).


What to Wear in Amsterdam in August?

Summer in Amsterdam offers comfortable days with a few very warm days. 

It is best to bring both long and short-sleeved shirts, comfortable pants, jeans, and dresses for both cool and warm days.

A windbreaker and a couple of sweaters will be needed for the cooler nights and mornings, especially late in August.

Sandals and sneakers, comfortable walking shoes, and an umbrella for rainy days will also come in handy.


Things to Do in Amsterdam in August

While there is expected to be a lot of rain and cloudy days this month, there should also be enough sunny days that you might want to consider a pay-what-you-want walking tour of Amsterdam.

This would also be a good time to take a cruise down the canals of Amsterdam and feel the breeze on a hot summer day.
