This post covers how to visit the London Dungeon, including best times to go, ticket prices, what you will see, and how to save money on tickets.

Disclosure: While our recommendations are always unbiased, we may receive a small share of sales through some of the links below at no cost to you. See the full text.

TICKETS

Ticket prices listed below are the online price. Again, we highly recommended that you buy tickets in advance, as prices are 30% more at the door.

Also, buying your ticket in advance saves you time as you will not have to wait in the queue at the ticket booth which is often quite long.

There are several types of tickets you can choose from. Generally the higher the price, the more perks you get with your ticket.

Note that morning and midday tickets cost approximately £3 more than afternoon tickets (after 15:00). For budget-minded people, keep this in mind when booking.

PLAN YOUR VISIT

The London Dungeon recreates various macabre historical events with interactive exhibits, thrilling rides, and a dose of gallows humor.

Below are all the details you need to make your visit go smoothly and enjoyable.

How to Get Here

The London Dungeon is located at Westminster Bridge Road and is a 5-minute walk from the London Waterloo Station.

It's located in Westminster near Buckingham Palace.

  • By tube: Northern, Jubilee and Bakerloo Lines to Waterloo Station.
  • By bus: London Waterloo bus station.
  • By ferry: The ferry dock to the London Eye Pier is walking distance to the London Dungeon. To find out more about this ferry service, see our post on Thames River boat cruises and ferries.

You can plan your trip by using the Transport For London website.

For tips on how to get around London by public transportation, see our post about navigating London's Underground.

London Dungeon Opening Times

Open every day of the year, except Christmas Day.

  • Monday - Friday: 11:00 am - 16:00 (4:00 pm)
  • Saturday: 10:00 am - 18:00 (6:00 pm)
  • Sunday: 10:00 am - 16:00 (4:00 pm)

Best Times to Visit

The London Dungeon is open every day of the year, except Christmas Day.

Peak tourist season (summers and holidays) will be the busiest time of the year, though it is popular year-round.

We highly recommend that to save time (and money), buy tickets in advance.

Buying tickets at the Dungeon for the day will almost guarantee you a long wait. In fact, you may not be able to get in at all as time slots may sell out.

If you cannot buy your tickets in advance, try to visit in the morning when they open. By late morning/midday, the queue can be over 30 minutes.

Also, the late afternoon is somewhat less crowded.

For those who don't purchase in advance (or if you do buy in advance and want a less crowded experience), the best days to go are early in the week, on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

As you can see below from the Google Places chart, the best times to go on a typical weekday are 10:00-11:00 and then again between 16:00-17:00 (when they close).

Best Times to visit the London Dungeon

On weekends, the Dungeon is very busy. If the only time you can go is the weekends, aim for first thing in the morning.

Otherwise, you can expect a wait to get in, even if you have purchased tickets in advance (with the exception of tickets with 'skip-the-line' privileges).

EXHIBITS

There are 19 exhibits and rides you will experience at the London Dungeon. In this section, we detail just a few of them.

Jack The Ripper

It’s 1889. While a storm rages outside, you take shelter in the Ten Bells Pub as the creepy landlady recounts the deeds of Jack the Ripper.

Hear theories about Jack the Ripper’s identity, and about his victims who drank at the real Ten Bells Pub.

TIP: If you can't get enough of Jack the Ripper, join us for our pay-what-you-like Jack the Ripper Tour!

The City Gates

It’s 1536 and you are in the Tower of London. Here you will get an interactive lesson from the ‘Headmaster’ - an expert in executions - in the art of preparing a head for a spike!

Learn about some of the most famous people who lost their heads here.

For a less gory version of history, you can visit the Tower of London and see an actual execution chamber.

Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder Plot

Guy Hawkes is known for his failed attempt to blow up Parliament in 1605.

Experience what it would have been like had he succeeded including the sights, smells, and sounds of a massive explosion.

Note: Guy Hawkes Day is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, where fireworks and bonfires are lit at festive gatherings.

Find out more from our list of things to do in London in November.

DUNGEON LATES

This after-hours exclusive 75-minute adults-only tour starts off in the London Dungeon Tavern.

There you get a complimentary alcoholic beverage to steady your nerves!

The tour covers all the same exhibits as the daytimes tour, but without kids around, the performers are free to be as scary as they want.

Luckily, you then return to the tavern for a second free drink. You will need it.

Tickets are £29 per adult (including two free alcoholic drinks). Time slots are available between 7 pm-9 pm.

Purchase tickets here.

Dungeon Lates is only on select dates so book ahead.

For more great after-hours activities in London, see our post about things to do in London at night.

NOTE: Dungeon Lates are not currently available as of March 2024.
