Our tour guides are frequently asked about visiting the Burj Khalifa, and in this article they have compiled a lot of useful details to help you see this landmark.

In this blog, we have got you all covered on how to get tickets to the Burj Khalifa, how to get there, and what you can expect inside the building.

What is the Burj Khalifa?

The Burj Khalifa passed many important milestones on its goal to become the tallest man-made structure the world has ever seen with 160 storeys and 555m high.

In just 1,325 days since excavation work started in January 2004, Burj Khalifa became the tallest free-standing structure in the world.

A visit to Dubai is incomplete without visiting the tallest building in the world.

Standing tall at 2716.5 feet, the Burj Khalifa holds world records for being the building with most floors, the highest occupied floor, the elevator with the longest travel distance, the highest observation deck and many more.

How Do I Get to the Burj Khalifa?

You'll find this landmark at 1 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd.

The Burj Khalifa is in Downtown Dubai, right beside Dubai Mall. If you are traveling by the Dubai Metro, take the Red Line to Burj Khalifa Station.

From there, you can walk to the mall via an air-conditioned overpass. This walk takes about 15 minutes, and there are moving walkways (like the type found in airports) to ease your journey.

Once you get to Dubai Mall, you need to walk through the mall to the Lower Ground Floor (also referred to as LG).

Alternatively, you can also take a taxi to the Burj Khalifa. The taxi will drop you at the entrance of Dubai Mall (near the Dubai Fountain) but you will then need to walk to the ticket collection and entrance which is on the lower ground floor.

You can also check our blog on How to get around in Dubai to know more about the types of taxis and their fares in Dubai.

The Burj Khalifa has two observation decks. The lower deck is called “At the Top” and stands at a height of 452 meters.

When it was opened in 2010, it was the highest observation deck in the world.

Burj Khalifa opened a new deck called “At the Top Sky”, after “At the Top “ was surpassed by an observation deck in China as the highest observation deck.

At 555 meters, it is currently the highest observation deck in the world.

Being the tallest building in Dubai, the Burj Khalifa offers the best views of the Dubai skyline and beyond from its observation deck.

The very top of the Burj Khalifa is the 163rd floor, however it is not accessible to the public.

To get to the top of the Burj Khalifa, you need to purchase a ticket. Your ticket price will vary based on the observation deck you choose and what time of day you stop by.

When purchasing Burj Khalifa tickets, you can choose between the basic ticket (At the Top) and the premium ticket (At the Top Sky).

Can you buy tickets to the Burj Khalifa on the same day?

Yes, you can buy tickets to the Burj Khalifa on the same day. However, you need to keep in mind that the most popular times (sunrise and sunset) often sell out well in advance.

In this case, going to the counter and buying tickets is risky as the tickets for the time slot you require might not be available. You also do not get the discounted tickets if you buy them from the counter.

We would recommend you book your tickets online, even if you decide your visit to the Burj Khalifa one or two days in advance.

How far in advance can you buy tickets to the Burj Khalifa?

Tickets on the website are only available up to 90 days ahead. We would recommend you book your tickets at least 2 weeks in advance to enjoy the time slot and day of your choice.

During the holidays, Christmas and New Year, we would recommend you book your tickets to the Burj Khalifa at least a month in advance.

Should you buy skip the line tickets to Burj Khalifa?

Standard tickets require you to get the barcode scanned at a redemption point.

With skip-the-line tickets, you will be able to skip this process and make your way straight to the elevators.

Skip-the-line tickets allow you to zoom past the long lines and arrive directly at the elevator entrance.

At over 900 ft in length – equivalent to over two football pitches – The Dubai Fountain is situated on the 30-acre Burj Lake and performs to a selection of different melodies.

The fountain performs to a range of different songs from classical to contemporary Arabic and world music.

Some popular tracks include Michael Jackson's Thriller, Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman's Time to Say Goodbye, and most recently Power by Korean pop band EXO.

The unique design features five circles of jets that shoot water to impressive heights that can be seen from over 30km away.

Performances are completely free and can be seen through various locations in Downtown Dubai. The most popular location is the waterfront promenade just outside the Dubai Mall.

Just before each performance, thousands of people pour out of the mall and the area gets very busy. The walkaway around the Souk Al Bahar is far less crowded and offers a more pleasant viewing experience.

Spectators coming out of the Dubai Mall need to set off around 15 minutes to find a spot at a busy hour.

  1. Souk al Bahar

Blending the classic with the contemporary, Souk Al Bahar, the “sailor’s market”, is a step back in time to the wonder and allure of old Arabia.

Situated in Downtown Dubai’s beating heart, it is enchantingly Arabesque – a lively marketplace that offers the city’s residents and tourists alike an enthralling experience of shopping, entertainment and dining in intriguing contrast to The Dubai Mall.

It features over 100 shops, amidst which lie 22 restaurants, cafés, and lounges, most situated on the waterfront promenade, on the fringes of Burj Lake.

Souk al Bahar has some of the best restaurants in Dubai with some unique outlets offering a variety of cuisines.

Try Thai at Mango Tree, British at Rivington Grill, Cuban at Café Habana and there is also the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Award winner Baker & Spice.

The outdoor seating restaurants give the best views of Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain, it is quite likely one of the most photographed locations in the world.

  1. Public Outdoor Art Work

Beautiful public artwork is also present in the heart of Downtown Dubai, next to Souk Al Bahar and alongside the iconic Dubai Fountains.

Camels, by Donald Greig, is a series of three life-size sculptures of the humble beasts. Camels are a true symbol of Arabian Gulf. The trio includes a standing camel, a seated one and a camel calf.

Greig is an artist known for his sculptures of wildlife and he created Camels after spending hours observing and riding camels. The sculptures were then melded into silicone and cast into the wax.

After, they were dipped to add 15 layers of ceramic and finally finished off with molten bronze. The tallest of the camels stand at 3 meters and all three weighs about 800 kilograms.

  1. Dubai Opera building

From the Burj Plaza, you can also view the Dubai Opera House. It is the radiant center of culture and arts in Dubai and the shining pearl of The Opera District.

The building is predominantly glass, with a transparent foyer and a ‘box within a box’ feel to the main structure to let light stream in.

The main chandelier in Dubai Opera weighs 5000kg and contains 2900 LEDs and there are 600 lighting fixtures throughout the building.

While the opera house, with its dhow-inspired form, tips its hat to the region’s maritime history, the functional elements inside are very much of the time.

Thanks to cutting-edge hydraulic technology, moving floor plates and a series of overhead reflectors, the functional configuration of the internal space ranges from a concert hall setting for 1,901 people to a theatre with 1,875 seats; box seating offers additional room.

In the “flat floor” mode, the building is designed to host a wide variety of events including weddings, trade shows, exhibitions and banquets seating up to 1,000 guests.

The building can adapt from show to show to ensure you get the best from these world-class performances.

For concerts, the stage will transform beyond recognition with a series of towers appearing to create a hi-tech acoustic shell, with reflectors overhead to enhance the acoustics and reflect sound around the venue.
