ABOUT THE MUSEUM
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the world with over a quarter of a million pieces.
Its also known for tourists running up the steps to yelling the Theme from Rocky (follow our guide for other locations from Rocky).
The main building was originally completed in 1928, meant to host the Centennial Exposition.
Within the museum itself, you can find over 200 galleries of art. The art spans the globe and all types of media, including paintings, sculptures, photography, and fashion.
Artwork highlights include:
- El Greco's Pieta
- J.M.W. Turner's Burning of the House of Lords and Commons
- Renoir's Large Bathers
- Monet's Japanese Bridge and Water Lillies
- Toulouse-Lautrec's At the Moulin Rouge
Today, the museum is often the site of outdoor concerts for bands such as Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, and Linkin Park, as well as festivals and more all-encompassing events.

TICKETS
This section lists the general admission ticket prices to get into the museum.
But there's no need to pay full price. Check our discounts section to get cheap or free tickets.
Each ticket has timed entry, which means you have to pick a specific time and date to visit and purchase your tickets for that time period.
Once you enter the museum, there is no time limit (other than closing time).
General Admission
- Adults: $25
- Seniors (65+): $23
- Students with ID: $14
- Youth (18 and Under): FREE
NOTE: Tickets to the Philadelphia Museum of Art are good for two consecutive days.
The same admission ticket is also valid for the Perelman Building, Rodin Museum, and historic houses Mount Pleasant and Cedar Grove.

Tourist Discount Passes

Pay What You Wish Days
On the first Sunday of each month and on Friday evenings, you can pay whatever you like for admission.
Military Discounts
The art museum is part of the Blue Star Museums group, which means that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, active-duty military personnel and their families can get in for free.
PA ACCESS and EBT Cardholders
If you have a PA ACCESS card or EBT card with a matching photo ID, you'll get free admission for 4 adults.
PA ACCESS cards are for Pennsylvania residents who use EBT cards.
Special Rates
If you choose to get tickets in person, make sure to go to the Visitor Services Desk to check for special rates.
They offer discounted general admission throughout the year, but none of the additional exhibits or attractions are included.
Discount Sites
If all else fails, you may find an opportunity to save some money on tickets by using discount sites such as Groupon and Living Social.
Museum Membership
Anyone planning to visit multiple times per year might want to consider getting a museum membership.
All museum members receive free admission, early access, and special rates on exhibitions, parking, and more.

How to Get There
The museum is located at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130.
Bus Routes:
- 7, 32, 38, 43, and 48
Hop-On-Hop-Off Tours:
- Philly hop-on-hop-off buses have multiple stops in the museum's area, which makes convenient transportation.
Parking:
- Accessible via Art Museum Drive or Waterworks Drive. Rates are $12 for the first 4 hours, $2 for each additional hour with museum validation.
Opening Hours
The museum is regularly open on these hours:
- Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Wednesdays and Fridays: 10:00 am - 8:45 pm
- Closed Mondays
They are closed on July 4, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
The museum is also open on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day.
Coat Check and Bags
The museum does not allow backpacks, large bags, selfie sticks, or umbrellas in the galleries. Coat check is free for your oversized items (over 16 x 16 x 8 inches).

Museum Policies
For the security of the building and the artwork, there are a few policies you must follow while visiting.
- Stay at least an arm's length from the artwork.
- Food and drinks are only allowed in designated dining areas.
- If you take personal photos, no flash, tripods, or selfie sticks are allowed to be used.
- Strollers and baby carriers ARE permitted in most areas.

Accessibility
The museum offers large-print and braille information materials if you contact the museum (215-684-7602) three weeks before your visit.
They also offer wheelchairs for free use on a first-come, first-served basis.
