The Weather in Prague in May

May is the last month of spring and daytime temperatures can range from cool to warm.

This post is about the weather in Prague, including average temperatures and rainfall, with tips for what to pack.


Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures tend to be near 17 C (62-63 F) early in May but will warm to 19-20 C (66-68 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially near the end of May, can reach up to nearly 26 C (79 F).

The record high temperature in Prague during May is 29 C (84 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will be near 6-7 C (43-44 F) early in the month warming to 9-10 C (48-50 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings early in May can still dip down near 1-2 C (34-36 F). 

The record low temperature in Prague during May is - 2.2 C (28 F).

Rain or Shine

About 14-15 days this month will be sunny, or at least partly sunny, making this a great time to explore the city.

Although about half the days record some rainfall, only about 8 days will record 1mm (0.04 inches) or more. 


Daylight

Daylight hours increase throughout this month from 14.7 hours on the 1st to just over 16 hours on the 30th. 


Windspeed

The wind tends to be mostly light to gentle (6-19 kph/4-12 mph) but occasionally will be moderate (20-28 kph/13-18mph). 


What to Wear in Prague in May?

May is the last month of Spring and temperatures can range from cold to warm. 

At least a light or medium-weight jacket or coat and a couple of sweaters will be needed for the colder nights and mornings. 

For the warmer days, only a windbreaker may be required, and don’t forget some comfortable walking shoes to explore the city.


Things to Do in Prague in May

This month typically brings a lot more sun than usual, so it should be a pretty good time to consider taking a pay-what-you-wish walking tour in Prague.

There are also usually a lot of great concerts to attend. In May 2024, you can look forward to musical performances from Tool, Imagine Dragonsy Scorpions.

On May 15th, the annual event of St. John's Navalis Sound & Light Show takes place.

During this celebration, there is a fireworks show over the Charles Bridge, and it's free to attend.

Prague's Open House event also happens this month, giving the public free access to several historically important buildings in the country that are usually off-limits.
