The Weather in Dublin, Ireland in April

April marks the beginning of the tourist season in Dublin, although it still tends to be cold so crowds are not as large as during the summer. 


Temperature

Daytime high temperatures early in April tend to average near 11 C (51-52 F)) warming to near 13 C (55-56 G) by the 30th. 

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially later in the month, can warm up to near 16 C (about 61 F).

The record high temperature in Dublin during April is 20.5 C (68.9 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures average around 4 C (39 F) early in April, warming to about 6 C (43 F) near the month’s end. 

A few of the colder mornings, especially early in the month can dip down to around 1 C (about 34 F).

You should expect only about 2 days this month reaching 0 C (32 F).  The record low temperature in Dublin during April is -4 C (24.8 F).


Clouds and Precipitation

About 13 days this month will be sunny, or at least partly sunny. 

About 15 days record some rainfall, however, only 3 days, on average, will total 5 mm (0.2 inches) or more of rain. 

Snow occurs, on average only on 1 day but rarely accumulates.  


Daylight

Daylight hours increase rapidly throughout this month from just over 13 hours on the 1st to 15 hours by the 30th.

This should allow ample time to explore this city. 


Windspeed

Wind speeds during April tend to be gentle to moderate at 8-18 mph/20-28 kph but occasionally will be fresh at 19-24 mph/29-38 kph.


Ocean Temperatures

Dublin lies along the western edge of the Irish Sea which during April is very cold with water temperatures averaging near 8-9 C (about 46-48 F).


What to Wear in Dublin in April?

April in Dublin is still cold so bring along some winter attire including jeans or other long pants or trousers, as well as a scarf and gloves. 

Also, include a mix of short and long-sleeve shirts tops and shirts, hoodies, and a warm waterproof jacket or coat. 

You may want to pack a lighter-weight jacket or coat for those somewhat warmer afternoons. 

Don’t forget some good walking shoes or boots.  


Things to Do in Dublin in April

With the weather getting nicer during the spring, this would be an excellent time to take a pay-what-you-want Dublin walking tour.

This would also be a good time of year to visit notable historic sites such as Dublin Castle or the Cliffs of Moher.
