The Weather in Dublin in May

This post summarizes the weather in May in Dublin, Ireland.

It’s spring in Dublin, and with warming temperatures, you will see more outdoor activities and an increase in tourism.


Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures during May tend to be near 13-14 C (about 56-57 F) early in May, warming gradually to about 16 C (about 61 F) by the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, mostly later in May, can reach up to around 19 C (about 66-67 F). 

The record high temperature in Dublin during May is 23.5 C (74.3 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will average around 6 C (42-43 F) early in the month, warming to near 8-9 C (46-48 F) by the end of the month. 

A few of the colder mornings, especially early in May, can dip down near 3 C (37-38 F) while temperatures below freezing are rare.

The record low temperature in Dublin during May is -1.5 C (29.3 F).

How Much Rain Does Dublin Get in May?

During May, Dublin will have about 14 sunny, or at least partly sunny days.

Rain falls on about 15 days, however, only 3 of these will record 5 mm (0.2 inches) or more rain. 


Daylight

Daylight hours continue to increase this month from a bit over 15 hours on May 1st to 16.6 hours by the 31st.  


Wind

Wind speeds during May tend to be gentle to moderate averaging 8-18 mph/20-28 kph but briefly can be fresh at 19-24 mph/29-38 kph.


Ocean

Dublin lies along the western edge of the Irish Sea which during May is still quite cold with temperatures averaging near 9-11 C (about 49-52 F).


What to Wear in Dublin in May

Spring is in full bloom this month in Dublin as temperatures slowly warm. 

Best to bring along short and long-sleeved shirts for layering, warm socks, and water-resistant walking shoes or boots. 

Jeans or warm travel pants along with a lightweight jacket and a sweater or two work well.   


Things to Do in Dublin in May

There should be a lot of sunny days in Dublin this month, so you might want to think about taking a pay-what-you-wish walking tour around the city.

Although most of the major musical artists schedule their performances for the summer months, you can usually catch a few really good concerts in May.

If you're lucky, there might also be a famous comedian coming to town this month!

Should all else fail, you can't go wrong with a visit to one of Dublin's many distilleries.
