How is the Weather in Nashville in September?

Afternoons are warm with comfortable to cool nights.  Humidity levels significantly drop this month.


Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures decrease from 86-87 F (30-31 C) early in September to 79-81 F (26-27 C) near the end of the month. 

On average, about 7 days, mostly early in the month, will have highs equal to or exceeding 90 F (32 C).  The record high temperature in Nashville during September is 105 F (40.6 C).

Late night and early morning low temperatures decrease this month from 65-68 F (18-20 C) early in September, down to 57-60 F (14-16 C) near the end of the month.

A few of the cooler mornings, especially near the end of the month, can dip down near 46 F (8 C) and the record low temperature in Nashville during September is 36 F (2.2 C).


Sun and Rain

During September you can expect about 11 sunny, 9 partly sunny, and 10 mostly cloudy days. 

On average, there will be 8 days with some measurable rain, however, only 3 of these will record 0.5 inches (13 mm) or more.


Daylight

The number of daylight hours decreases rapidly this month from just under 13 hours on the 1st to about 11.8 hours on the 30th. 


Wind 

Wind speeds tend to be light to gentle this month, averaging 4-12 mph (6-19 kph) with briefly higher gusts.


What to Wear in Nashville during September?

September features mostly summer weather in Nashville, however, there can be a touch of Autumn by the end of the month.

Summer attire still works well, but also bring along some fall clothes including a sweater, sweatshirt, or windbreaker for the cooler nights and mornings that become more frequent later in the month. 

Also bring some jeans and perhaps a pair of cowboy boots plus an umbrella for the few rainy days.  Don’t forget a good pair of walking shoes for your visit as the downtown district is hilly, so comfortable footwear is a must. 


Things to Do in Nashville during September

There should be plenty of sunny days this month, and the weather will be cooling down a bit, so this would be an excellent time to consider taking a pay-what-you-wish walking tour in Nashville.

If you're visiting on a particularly hot day, don't forget that there's almost always a chance to see a concert at the Grand Ole Opry every single month of the year, including in September!

You can also visit Nashville Zoo with your kids which is an amazing option to spend you day in warmer months.
