In this post, we answer two questions, how long is the Brooklyn Bridge and how long does it take to cross it. Visit our master post for more tips on how to cross the Brooklyn Bridge as well as things to do in Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Bridge is approximately 1.1 miles in length (or roughly 1.8 km). However, entrances for the pedestrian walkway are approximately 1.6 miles apart (or roughly 2.6 km).
Most visitors will not walk the complete promenade, as there are a couple of places where one can reach the promenade along the way.
For example, many visitors will start from the Manhattan side of the bridge and walk to the High Street subway station, where they will catch the A or C train back into Manhattan, which is 1.4 miles in length (or roughly 2.3 km).
This is the length that you should consider when calculating the time needed to cross the bridge.
New York commuters hurrying to work spend 25 minutes crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. However, in this post, we are focused on visitors who want to experience the bridge.
Quick Walk – 30 Minutes
In the video below, it takes the camera 25 minutes to reach the Manhattan entrance to the pedestrian walkway. In reality, you will need an additional 5 minutes to reach the starting point in the video.
Casual Stroll 30-60 minutes
For those who want to stroll casually while taking photos and admiring the view, give yourself an additional 30 minutes.
Using Our Audio Tour 60-75 minutes
We offer a GPS-enabled audio tour of the Brooklyn Bridge ($1.99/download). It has 13 stops. If you listen to all of the audio and make time for some photos, you should spend about 1 hour and 15 minutes to cross the bridge.
