Quintessential Wimbledon Tour
Wimbledon is of course synonymous with tennis, The Championships and strawberries and cream but it is also a very rich and important London suburb in terms of history and nature conjuring up other images of wide-open green spaces, period houses, red-shirted golfers, village life, horse-riding on the Common, ancient pubs and tales of highway men from the 17th and 18th centuries. The walk aims to introduce you to as many different aspects of this beautiful area as possible in the time, punctuated by short stops to relay some backstories and anecdotes.
We will start off in what was historically called New Wimbledon and head up to the Village. We will then slowly wind our way across the Green and the Common and along some of the loveliest and prestigious streets in London, ending the walk outside the famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and a short distance from Wimbledon Park. The walk has the feel of “capital city meets countryside”. The guide will leave you with directions to Southfields Underground (District Line) – 15mins walk from the Tennis Club
