What to do in Los Angeles in November

This post covers the best things to do in Los Angeles, California in November and has been updated for 2024.

November is a great time to visit, particularly weatherwise, with high temperatures in the mid-70s F (24-25 C) early in the month, falling to near 70 F (21-22 C) by the end of the month.

Late night and early morning low temperatures can be a bit chilly averaging in the mid-50s F (13-14 C) early in the month falling to near 50 F (about 10 C) by the month’s end.

As local tour guides, we compiled this list based on our own experiences, but also by answering your questions.

We lead hundreds of people each month on tours in Los Angeles and on every tour we answer questions about things to do in the city.

It includes a top ten list, as well as evening, free, and family-friendly activities.

1. Discover Los Angeles on a Walking Tour

2. Attend a Concert

Los Angeles is one of the biggest hubs for entertainment in the world.

So, you can expect a number of well-known musical artists to perform in the area throughout the month.

3. Attend a Sporting Event

There are several professional sports teams in the Los Angeles area, and many of them will be performing at home this November.

4. Enjoy a Theatrical Production

Although Los Angeles is known more for its movies, other genres of entertainment can be found in the city.

There are a number of shows taking place on the stage in November.

5. Go to the LA Autoshow

Los Angeles brings their annual automotive festival to the Convention Center. something it's been doing since 1907!

The show takes place in over 1,000,000 square feet of space. It's also one of the best-attended shows in the world.

Car enthusiasts can see old models and new ones, with over 1,000 vehicles being shown.

Visitors can also test drive some of the cars.

The show takes place November 17th-26th.

6. Take the Kids to the Turkey Trot

Before losing yourself in a Thanksgiving feast (or football game) come to DTLA for a 5k or 10k fun run for a good cause! 

The annual Turkey Trot benefits The Midnight Mission, which is dedicated to helping the homeless in a variety of ways.

Both races will take place on November 23rd at 9 am

The race itself weaves through downtown and past a handful of notable landmarks.

Even if you don’t feel like taking part in this activity, you can always come and cheer on participating athletes.

7. See Live Stand-up Comedy

Los Angeles is home to some of the most famous comedians in the world, and many others are drawn to perform in the city throughout the year.

As a result, there are usually a lot of great stand-up shows happening in the LA area.

8. Experience Flutter

Flutter is the perfect name for an "immersive sensory experience" that is sure to have a strong and positive impact on those who visit.

Artists have come together to build an interactive exhibit that includes light projection mapping, virtual reality, sound baths, and more.

This all takes place in 14 rooms on South La Brea, not far from The Grove.

9. Attend the California Festival

This new two-week statewide festival was launched by the LA Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony.

It showcases new and forward-looking voices, bringing more than 50 organizations and ensembles together throughout California to perform pieces created within the last five years.

The festival runs from November 3rd to 19th, 2023.

10. Use a Tourist Pass to Save Money

There are several tourist attraction discount passes available in Los Angeles, and each one offers an opportunity to save money on the most popular activities in this city.

While all-inclusive passes provide admission to dozens of attractions over the course of a specific number of days, there are also services that allow you to pay one flat price for a set number of activities instead.

Alternatively, you can also “build your own pass” and save up to 20% off general admission prices at several popular locations when you purchase at least four tickets.

FREE THINGS TO DO IN NOVEMBER

There are a lot of free activities to enjoy during your time in LA. In this section, we will be covering some of the best things to do for free in November

Visit a National Park for Free

Spend some time at one of the National Parks that are a day trip away from Los Angeles without worrying about park admission fees. 

Pack the car and head to Joshua Tree, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon, or make your way to Yosemite instead. 

In honor of Veterans Day, the National Park Service will be offering free admission to all visitors on November 11th.

Free days can be busy but they are a big money saver!


Go to the Museum of Contemporary Art

Featuring a vast amount of contemporary and pop art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, or MOCA, is a great place to spend an afternoon. 

Stroll through their galleries to see the artwork of names like Roy Lichtenstein, Franz Klein, Mark Rothko, and Jean Frautier among many others. 

General admission is "free courtesy of Carolyn Clark Powers", and can be collected from the website in advance.

This is just one of many museums in the city that offers free entry.

See the Hollywood Sign

Located in Griffith Park, this historic sign is absolutely free to visit throughout the year – all you have to do is make the hike!

While the walk to this sign isn’t necessarily going to be easy for everyone, it won’t cost a thing to enjoy this activity and you’ll burn a few calories while you’re at it.

While you’re in the area, you may also want to enjoy one of the best views of Los Angeles at the Griffith Park Observatory.

If you don’t mind spending a few bucks, you can take a Hollywood Hills hiking tour which includes a trip to the Hollywood sign.

THINGS TO DO AT NIGHT IN NOVEMBER

See Los Angeles After Dark on a Night Tour

See the city lights, a movie studio, celebrities' homes, or Hollywood's hippest night clubs by taking a night tour.

Night Bus Tours are popular and fun. Check out the LA City Tour By Night to get an overview of the city.

If you came to see the stars (and not the ones in the sky), take a Celebrity Home tour that runs into the early evening.

For TV and movie buffs, you can take a Paramount Studios After Dark tour.

Check out a Los Angeles Bar

There are many places to get a good drink in L.A. Below are just a sample of suggestions.

Go to the 7 Grand for a great whiskey bar. If you are a rum lover- head to Pouring With Heart

The Slipper Clutch is like an 80s punk rock scene. Cocktails are super fancy but not super expensive since they are pre-batched.   

Want to go back in time to a Hollywood-style swing bar?  Go to the Cicada Club.

Looking for a themed- bar?  Try Scum & Villainy in Hollywood- It is a STAR WARS-themed bar.

Want a really interesting experience?  Look for Hollywood’s favorite speakeasy No Vacancy.


Have a Haunted Encounter on the Queen Mary 

This famous 1930s cruise ship (now a hotel) was once considered by Time Magazine as one of the "Top 10 Most Haunted Places on Earth".

You can take their one-hour Haunted Encounters tour, offered several times daily.

If you prefer to visit this ship for its lush art-deco design and to learn its history, you can get a general admission ticket to tour parts of the ship.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES IN NOVEMBER

Many attractions and activities in LA are fun for people of all ages.

This section will cover a few of the best things to do with kids in November.

Some of the things we’ve already mentioned like the Turkey Trot and visiting a National Park are great free activities for families.

Get Ready for the Holidays at a Theme Park

Most of the popular amusement parks in Los Angeles hold special holiday-themed events beginning in November.

Holidays at Disneyland Resort features a holiday-themed parade, fireworks, and even augments to popular rides such as It’s a Small World and the Haunted Mansion!

Knott’s Berry Farm turns into Knott’s Merry Farm which focuses more on holiday stage shows and even an ice show featuring Snoopy.

There are similar events at the following locations:

  • Six Flags Magic Mountain
  • Universal Studios Hollywood
  • LEGOLAND California

Admission to each of these theme parks is included with at least one major Los Angeles tourist pass.


Check out the Autry Museum of the West

Located in Griffith Park, the Autry Museum of the West covers an extensive history of the American West.

Throughout the exhibits, see old Western movie props, art, Native American artifacts, and more.

Best of all, admission to this attraction is included with some tourist passes, so you don’t even have to pay full price to get inside!

Visit the LA Zoo

With over 250 species to visit, the LA Zoo is a great place to spend the day in LA with kids.

They also have a beautiful botanical garden to enjoy!

You can get up close to some of these animals with experiences like giraffe feedings and mingling flamingos!

See a Movie at the El Capitan Theatre

The historic theatre in Hollywood (it opened in 1926!) offers films with a little extra magic that children and families love.

Now owned by Disney, movie-goers can often expect confetti to fall from the ceiling, live singing, and appearances by Disney cast members.


Go to the Cayton Children’s Museum

LA’s Cayton Children's Museum is loaded with hands-on and interactive exhibits for little ones to enjoy!

Located on the Miracle Mile of museums on LA’s westside, the museum also offers classes and an art walk.
