The Weather in Budapest in July

Updated: April 23, 2024

This post summarizes the July weather in Budapest, with tips on what to wear, as well as things to do.

As local tour guides, we know that July is one of the best times for walking tours, because there's usually a lot of great, sunny weather. And I am not just a tour guide. I'm also a retired meteorologist who has found a new way to put my experiences to work.

July brings warm afternoons and evenings with mostly comfortable late nights and early mornings. You can expect about 2-3 afternoons to be considered humid.

Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures tend to average around 25-27 C (77-80 F) early in July, warming to around 27-29 C (81-84 F) near the end of the month.

About 3 days this month usually reach afternoon highs of 32 C (90 F) or more.

The record high temperature in Budapest during July is 40.1 C (104 F).

Late night and early morning lows will tend to be around 15-16 C (59-61 F) early in July, warming to around 17-19 C (62-66 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the cooler mornings can dip down to around 12 C (53-54 F).

The record low temperature in Budapest during July is 8.9 C (48 F).

How Much Does It Rain in July?

Overall, you can expect about 21 mostly, or at least partly sunny days with about 10 mostly cloudy days.

About 6-7 days will record rainfalls of at least 1 mm (0.04 inches).

Daylight

The number of daylight hours decreases this month from 15.9 hours on the 1st to 15 hours by the 31st.

Windspeed

Mostly light to gentle winds prevail this month at 6-19 kph (4-12 mph) but can briefly be moderate at 20-28 kph (13-18 mph).

What to Wear in Budapest in July

Summer afternoons in Budapest are warm and summer attire works well.

However, nights and early morning hours can still be chilly so always bring a light jacket or windbreaker as well as some long-sleeve tops and long pants.

Don’t forget to bring some comfortable walking shoes as in the old town the streets are cobbled and unsuitable for high-heels.

Things to Do in Budapest in July

Since it's the middle of the summer, this is an excellent time to consider taking a pay-what-you-wish Budapest walking tour.

With 18 different pools that are located both indoors and outdoors, the Széchenyi Spa Baths are one of the best spots to visit during the warmer months.

If it's an especially hot day, you might want to consider going on an evening sightseeing cruise down the historic river Danube.

Another idea is to visit Margaret Island to see the rose garden, a Japanese garden, a musical fountain, and many other beautiful attractions.
