AUDIO TOUR HELP:

View Cities
Updated: July 13, 2023

Here are some FAQs about our Audio Tours. If you still need help, please email us at audio@freetoursbyfoot.com

DO I HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS ON THE DATE I BOOKED?

No! You can listen to it whenever and as many times as you'd like.

DO I HAVE TO BE IN *enter city* TO USE THIS?

Nope! If you just want to pretend to be travelling, you can listen to this like its a podcast or even use Street View on Google Maps to pretend you're there.

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD THE AUDIO FILE?

If you want to download the file so you don't have to listen to it over data, you can download it to your device.

DESKTOP:

When you click on the link it opens in a new window. It depends on your browser how to download the file. In some cases (Chrome for example), there are three dots on the right that will have a drop down menu. If you don't see a drop down menu (Safari, for example) press the Option and Enter keys, or control-click the link and choose Download Linked File.

MOBILE:

IPHONES: When you click on the link it opens up in a new window, but you'll be able to SAVE TO FILES (option at the bottom of the screen that looks like a box with an upward arrow) the same way you would if you were sharing that page.

ANDROID: When you click on the link it opens up in a new window, there are three buttons on the right that allow you to download the file.

THE AUDIO FILE IS ONLY 30 MINUTES LONG BUT I THOUGHT THIS TOUR WAS 1.5 HOURS?

We don't know how long it will take you to get between stops so you'll have a chance to pause at the end of one stop as you walk to the next. On many audio tours we encourage you to visit a museum or attraction we walk past as well.

I DON'T HAVE GOOGLE MAPS APP!

Unfortunately, we only have Google Maps available at the moment. If you don't have Google Maps app, you can view the map on a desktop on the upper right hand corner of the Map Legend are three dots that pull up a menu that has the option to save the map as a pdf. You won't be able to use with GPS tracker though.

HOW DO USE GOOGLE MAPS WITHOUT DATA?

This is a helpful trick for any trip - whether or not you're using our audio tours! If you enter the city you'll be visiting into the search bar on Google Maps, at the bottom where you see DIRECTIONS -- START -- SAVE -- etc, swipe all the way to the right and you'll see a download button.

This will download the area map to your Google Maps app and let you search, view and use it without Data. Your GPS tracker - the little blue dot that shows where you are - isn't actually data enabled so it will work even if your data is turned off.

Any time you see a Google My Map you’d like to refer to later on your phone, click the rectangle icon on the top right corner. This will open the map up in Google Maps on your phone and automatically save it on your Google account.

How to Use Google My Maps Offline

Annoyingly, we need a workaround to use Google My Maps offline because there is no built-in way.

Here are the steps:

On your phone’sGoogleMaps, click the three horizontal lines on the top left.

  1. Tap “Your Places.”
  2. In “Your Places” tap “Maps” on the upper right of your screen.
  3. Locate the Google My Map you want to see and use offline and tap it to open it up on your screen. The map will then be accessible for offline use
  4. Don’t exit Google Maps! You can switch to other apps, but don’t close Google Maps entirely or else the cache will be wiped out and you will no longer be able to see your desired Google My Map offline.

Note: You can only have up to 5 Google My Maps visible on your Google Maps at a time.
