What is the Weather in Boston in March?

HOW COLD IS BOSTON IN MARCH

March may start out cold in Boston, however, by the end of this month, signs of Spring will be in the air.  

Early in March overnight and early morning low temperatures tend to be in the mid-upper 20s F (-2C) while afternoon high temperatures average in the low 40s F (5-6C).

By the end of this month overnight low temperatures have warmed to the mid-30s F (2-3C) while afternoon highs often reach into the lower 50s F (10-11C).

Average Boston Temperatures in March

On a couple of the coldest mornings you will likely see temperatures dipping down into the mid-teens F (-9C) while a few of the warmer afternoons could see temperatures warm into the mid-60s F (17-18C).

March in Boston in the past has seen quite a large range in temperatures.

The all-time record low in Boston during March was -8 F (-22.2C)) set in 1872 while the record high of 96 F (35.6C) was sent in 1944.

About 16 days during March will see either sunny or at least partly sunny skies in Boston with about 11 or 12 days reporting some form of precipitation.

DOES IT SNOW IN BOSTON IN MARCH?

Of those days with precipitation, about 4 or 5 will record snow.

Of these, about 2 days will have at least 1 inch (about 2.5 cm) of snow and 1 day 3 inches (7.6cm) or more. 

Snowfalls of 5 inches (12.7cm) or more occur about once every other year.
