How is the Weather in Istanbul During October?

Updated: February 5, 2025

October features comfortable to cool afternoons and evenings with cool to cold late nights and early mornings. Cloudiness increases, as does the risk for rain.

In my role as both your tour guide and a retired meteorologist, I leverage my unique skills to offer precise weather forecasts for this month.

This ensures you have all the information needed to enjoy your tour regardless of the weather conditions.

Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures tend to average around 21-22 C (70-72 F) early in the month, falling to around 17-18 C (63-64 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially early in the month, can reach up near 26 C (79 F). The highest temperature recorded during October in Istanbul during recent decades is 33 C (91.4 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures tend to average near 14-15 C (57-59 F) early in the month, falling to 10-11 C (50-52 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings, especially late in the month, can dip down to near 7 C (45 F). The coldest temperature recorded in recent decades in Istanbul was October 2 C (35.6 F).

Sky and Rain

October will see, on average, 18-19 sunny, or at least partly sunny days with 12-13 days that are mostly cloudy. It is more likely to have a sunny day early in the month vs late in the month.

Rain occurs on 7-10 days this month with the risk of rain more likely near the end of the month than at the start.

Windspeed

Wind speeds during this month will be mostly gentle to moderate at 12-28 kph (8-18 mph) but can occasionally be fresh at 29-38 kph (19-24 mph).

Ocean Temperatures

The beaches near Istanbul lie mostly along the shores of the Sea of Marmara and along the Bosphorus Strait. The sea temperature starts out around 21 C (70 F) early in October, falling to around 17 C (63 F) by the end of the month.

What to Wear in Istanbul during October?

During October you should pack clothes for a mix of warm and cool/wet weather. A light jacket or windbreaker will be needed for most days except for some of the warmer afternoons. Consider bringing a waterproof jacket and shoes for rainy days.

You can dress in thin layers (such as a T-shirt, light sweater and a jacket) so you can take them off during the warmer afternoons.  When visiting a Mosque, women are required to cover their hair, upper arms, shoulders, and knees.

Things to Do in Istanbul in October

For the most part, it's still an excellent time to consider taking a free walking tour in Istanbul, especially if you don't mind a little wind or rain along the way.

Although it's obviously not as significant as in Germany, Oktoberfest is also held here in Istanbul, so there will likely be plenty of opportunities to feast and drink.

If you're a fan of jazz, consider attending the Akbank Jazz Festival, currently scheduled for October 8th-9th, 2025.
