How is the Weather in Philadelphia During July?

Updated: May 12, 2024

This post summarizes the July weather in Philadelphia, with tips on what to wear, as well as things to do.

As local tour guides, we know that July is one of the best times for walking tours, because there's usually a lot of great, sunny weather.

And I am not just a tour guide. I'm also a retired meteorologist who has found a new way to put my experiences to work.

July features warm to hot afternoons with comfortable late night and early mornings, however, about 17 days will likely be humid.

Daytime high temperatures during July tend to average around 86-88 F (30-31 C) but you should expect that 10-12 days will reach highs of 90 F (32 C) or more.

The record high temperature during July in Philadelphia is 104 F (40 C).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will tend to be around 68-70 F (20-21 C), however, a few of the cooler mornings may dip down around 60-61 F (16 C).

The record low temperature in Philadelphia during July is 51 F (10.6 C).

Sky and Rain

You can expect about 7 sunny, 12 partly sunny, and 12 mostly cloudy days this month with 9-10 days recording some rainfall but only 2-3 of these will record 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) or more.

About 6 days will experience thunderstorms.

The number of daylight hours decreases this month from just under 15 hours on the 1st to about 14.3 hours by the 31st.

Wind speeds generally are light to gentle during July, averaging 4-7 mph (6-11 kph) to occasionally gentle at 8-12 mph (12-19 kph). Higher wind gusts are likely during thunderstorms.

What to Wear in Philadelphia During July?

Summer tends to be hot and humid in Philadelphia so dress light and airy.

You can pack both long and short-sleeve tops, light colored jeans, a windbreaker, sneakers and some comfortable walking shoes.

A light rain jacket or umbrella will come in handy for the rainy days.

Things to Do in Philadelphia in July

Although the weather will likely be quite warm in July, the weather should be nice enough on most days to consider taking a pay-what-you-want Philadelphia walking tour.

If you're looking for other fun summer activities, it's worth noting that the Phillies will be playing several home games this month.

There will also be plenty of great concerts this month, including beloved country artist Luke Combs.

In 2024, the Academy of Music at Kimmel Cultural Campus will be hosting an off-Broadway production of Moulin Rouge.
