The Weather in Prague in October

October can be both mild and cold with increasing cloudiness throughout the month.


Temperature

Daytime high temperatures tend to be near 15 C (59 F) early in October falling to 10-11 C (50-52 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, early in October, still can reach near 21 C (70 F).

The record high temperature in Prague during October is 24.4 C (76 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will tend to be near 7C (45 F) early in October, falling to 3-4 C (37-39 F) by the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings, especially near the end of the month, can dip down to -2 C (28-29 F).

In addition, about 5 mornings this month, experience morning lows at or below freezing. 

The record low temperature in Prague during October is -7.2 C (19 F).


How Much Rain in October?

About 13-14 days this month will have sunny or at least partly sunny skies, however, late October tends to be more cloudy than early October. 

Overall, about 16 days will record some rainfall, however, only 5 or 6 of these will record 1 mm (0.04 inches) or more.

October is the first month where you typically encounter some snow, however, most of the time the snow is only a dusting.


Daylight

The hours of daylight continue to fall rapidly this month from about 11.6 hours on the 1st down to 9.8 hours by the 31st.


Windspeed

The wind tends to be mainly light to gentle (6-19 kph/4-12 mph) but occasionally can be moderate (20-28 kph/13-18mph). 


What to Wear in Prague in October?

It is fall and temperatures can be both mild and cold this month.

At least a medium-weight jacket or coat, some warm socks, and a couple of sweaters will be needed for the colder nights and mornings.

For the warmer days, only a light coat or windbreaker may be required, and don’t forget some comfortable walking shoes to explore the city.


Things to do in Prague in October

If you're willing to brave a bit more rain than other months, many of the pay-what-you-wish walking tours in Prague run no matter what the weather is like, making this an excellent activity for October.

Fans of hockey and football (soccer) may want to consider attending a sporting event this month, as Prague's best teams usually perform during this time of year.

Prague Travel Tips

The fall is also usually a good time to catch a theatrical performance at a location such as the Hybernia Theater, as they often have shows such as Swan Lake to enjoy.

Although Halloween isn't as celebrated in Prague as it is in other parts of the world, they do have some haunted ghost tours you can take which should get you in the mood for this spooky season!
