Best Things to Do in Miami at Night

Everything in this post is the 'best' thing to do at night. But to make things a little easier for you, this section has top activities, and below this are things to do for adults, then free fun after dark, and finally, family activities for nighttime.


1. Take a Night Bus Tour

What better way to kick off a night in Miami, than by hopping on a 90-Minute Big Bus Night Tour all around the city?

You’ll get to see the Magic City lit up with all its colors and vibrancy on this tour.

2. Stroll along Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive in the Art Deco District, is one of the famous streets in Miami Beach and for good reason.

The Art Deco buildings are so iconic they have appeared in movies like Scarface and Miami Vice.

Also, Ocean Drive has some of the best nightlife in Miami.

Packed with restaurants and bars amid the neon signs, it’s a destination unto itself!

Other streets for fantastic nightlife (or daytime exploration) are Biscayne Boulevard, Miracle Mile, and Española Way.


3. Relax on a Sunset Cruise

Before you go out on the town, you should see what the city looks like when the sun begins to set.

Miami sunsets are some of the most beautiful sights you will ever see, and there’s no better way to experience them than by taking a cruise.

Some boat tour companies offer sunset cruises that will truly set the mood for a wonderful evening in the city.

You’ll cruise through Biscayne Bay, Port of Miami, Fish Island, Miami Beach, and Millionaire’s Row as well as take in the unforgettable Miami Skyline.


4. Take a City Lights Air Tour

There is nothing more unforgettable than flying over the sparkling skyscrapers of Downtown Miami via airplane as the city lights dazzle.

Thanks to the Miami Beach Sunset Breathtaking Flight Tour, in just 45 minutes, you’ll see so much like the neon lights of South Beach and the moon reflecting on Biscayne Bay from an aerial view.

Although this may be one of the more costly activities on the list, at $200 per person, it is also one of the most highly-rated experiences in Miami.

This nighttime air tour is a great way to discover the city from a completely different perspective.


5. See the Wynwood Walls

If you’re looking for a way to save money while discovering the best Miami has to offer, then Wynwood, Miami's most colorfully decorated street art district, is the place to go at night.

On the second Saturday of each month, thousands of locals and tourists come out for the free Wynwood Art Walk. The whole area is like a big street party!

More than 400 businesses open their doors after hours giving you access to delicious food, art galleries, boutique shops and so much more!

On the first Friday of every month, the Coral Gables Gallery offers free admission between 6 PM-10 PM.

There is also a guided art walk provided by the Miami Design Preservation League on Thursday nights at 6:30 PM.

One way to take advantage of this guided walking tour is by getting the Go City Miami Card, which gives you access to a wide variety of attractions in the city.


6. Experience Cuban Culture in Little Havana

If you happen to be in Miami on the last Friday of every month, you’ll be in for a treat!

From 7-11 pm, Calle Ocho in Little Havana comes to life during Viernes Culturales.

Viernes Culturales translates to 'Cultural Friday' in which locals head out into the street to demonstrate the true meaning of Cuban culture. Read more here.

7. Catch an Outdoor Movie or Music Show 

If the 'scene' is a bit too much, or you are in Miami with kids, then spend a night under the stars while watching a movie at the New World Center’s ExoStage.

The SoundScape Cinema Series screens films on a 7,000-square-foot outdoor projection wall.

Movies are typically at 8 pm on Wednesdays and run from October-May.

If classical music interests you, check out New World Symphony Wallcast Concerts which allow you to experience free, classical music on the projection wall of the New World Center as well.


8. Take a Sunset & Night Photography Workshop

If you want to cherish your memories of the Magic City forever, what better way than by taking a photography tour of the city at night?

During a Sunset & Night Photography Workshop, you’ll explore Miami Beach as the sun begins to set and see the city from an entirely new perspective.

Whether you want to be a photographer and build your portfolio or you just want to take some great pictures of this beautiful city at night, this tour is for you!

You will need a camera, tripod, and potentially a few different types of lenses in order to capture the best photos of Ocean Drive and South Beach.


9. Cuban Art and Cocktails

The Cubaocho Museum & Performing Arts Center has an impressive collection of 19th to Mid-20th Century Cuban art.

But how does viewing that art while sipping on a cocktail sound? The museum’s cafe serves up hand-crafted cocktails and small plates to snack on.

There is also live music and other events scheduled, like Latin jam sessions and salsa nights.


10. Enjoy the Performing Arts

The Ziff Ballet Opera House is one of the highest-rated attractions in the city, with shows that appeal to almost everyone.

In addition to several Off-Broadway shows, they also have productions aimed at more of a family audience.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, taking in a play at one of the most beloved theatres in Miami is definitely an excellent option.


Things to Do in Miami for Adults Only

A lot of things in this post can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

But, let's face it -- a lot of the night life in Miami is strictly for adults. Here are some of those activities!


11. Go to a Dinner Show

At Mango’s Tropical Cafe on legendary Ocean Drive in South Beach, you can have the time of your life Miami-style.

Dine on award-winning Latin American and Caribbean cuisine while watching a cabaret show.

See sequin-clad dancers do the Brazilian Samba and Cuban Conga. Want to join in? Jump on the dance floor to the sounds of salsa music!


12. Bar hop in Coconut Grove

This scenic neighborhood overlooking Biscayne Bay and Dinner Key Marina may have a low-key vibe but that doesn't mean there is no fun to be had at night!

You can find every kind of bar here, from dive bars to wine bars, with everything in between.

Looking for laid-back? Head to Barracuda Taphouse & Grill and Monty’s Raw Bar. For chic, try Bellini or Glass & Vine

At The Taurus, there's something for everyone. Great beers and a nice selection of whiskeys too. Plus there is karaoke!


13. Hit Miami's Nightclubs

Miami's nightclubs stay open so late that some don't close at all! While many night clubs close at 5 a.m., there are a handful that are open round the clock.

Club Space is perhaps downtown Miami’s most popular club, and you can party there mornings, noons, and nights.

E11EVEN is open 365/24/7. At LIV you might end up dancing next to a celebrity.

14. Learn to Salsa Dance

Don't just watch others on the dance floor! Learn all the steps with a two-hour Dance Night at Mango’s Tropical Cafe, Miami’s hottest Latin club in South Beach.

Upstairs at Mojito Room, you'll learn to Salsa and Bachata. Sip on a Signature Mojito and nibble on appetizer tastings.

Downstairs on the dance floor, you can show off your new moves!


15. Hear Live Jazz

The jazz scene in Miami is absolutely wonderful, with plenty of venues offering a variety of live shows.

As a matter of fact, some jazz bars and clubs have performances nearly every night!

One such venue is Ball & Chain, located in Little Havana, which offers live jazz nightly.

Lagniappe House, a New -Orleans style wine house and restaurant has live jazz every night of the week starting at 9 pm.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) has free jazz entertainment on the last Friday of each month at 8 pm.


16. Nighttime Jeep Tour of Miami

Instead of hopping on a bus or going for a long walk, Tons of Fun Tours will drive you around Miami in one of their stretch convertible Jeeps.

On this tour, you will visit the Art Deco District, Downtown Miami, Bayfront Park, The Miami Tower, and several other notable locations in the area.

17. Watch the Sunset on the Beach

Miami is synonymous with the beach and, although it’s fun to soak in the sun by day, it’s equally as exciting to enjoy the beach at sunset.

Grab a bottle of wine and a blanket and watch the beach change from light to dark as you listen to the ocean waves.

If you're looking for something quieter and more intimate than bustling South Beach, check out South Pointe Park or North Miami Beach.

Miami beaches generally close at 10 pm, so after the sun sets, don't stay too much longer.


18. See Contemporary Arts

Visit Miami's contemporary art museum with diverse exhibits. 

The Perez Art Museum (PAMM), which was once known as the Miami Art Museum, offers free daily tours led by museum guides at 11 am, 12 pm, and 2:30 pm, and on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm.

The museum offers over 2,000 works of art for your enjoyment. Fortunately, entry is included with the Go City Miami Card.

19. Ride the Miami Trolley

While the trolley service in Miami dates all the way back to 1906, the new trolley car fleet was introduced to the city in 2003. 

The Miami Trolley is a convenient way to around the city and the coolest part is that it’s completely free!

The trolley route spans all over the city of Miami from Wynwood to Brickell to Biscayne and many other popular tourist and local neighborhoods.

It’s open until 11 pm and kids always love riding along!


Family Night Time Activities

Aside from the Big Bus Night Tour, Miami City Lights Air Tour, and the Outdoor Soundscape Cinema Series, Miami has lots of fun things to do for families in the evening.


20. Go Sky High

The Skyviews Miami Observation Wheel is one of the best places to get breathtaking views of the Miami skyline at night.

As you rise 180 feet above the Bayside Marketplace in a climate-controlled Gondola, you can see the city lights.

Gondolas have glass bottom floors for an extra fun view all the way down to the street below! 

SkyViews Miami is open 365 days a year so no matter when you are in Miami, be sure to go for a ride in the sky!


21. Fun Dimension

This is of the best family-friendly destinations in Miami at night.

Fun Dimension in Wynwood is a massive 15,000-square-foot space with arcade games, laser tag, bumper cars and so much more!

Fun Dimension also offers a full-service event space for birthday parties and other celebrations.

There’s even a Bungy Dome where kids can soar as high as possible on a trampoline while they’re strapped into a harness.


22. See The Marlins Play Ball

A memorable evening out with the family can certainly be obtained at Marlins Park.

Located in Little Havana, just outside of downtown, Marlins Park offers inexpensive tickets for you and your family to enjoy a baseball game in the heart of Miami (kids aged three and under are free)!

If you are happy to go on a Friday evening, your kiddos will be elated at the bonus fireworks display at the end of the night.

On Sundays, kids can do a Diamond Dash around the bases at the end of the game.


23. Go on a Food Tour

Kids love to eat just like grown-ups! This Miami Food Tour starts at 5:30 pm and goes for 3 hours so you can be back at your hotel early and ready for bedtime!

24. Take the Kids to the Theatre

If your child is dreaming of starring on Broadway one day, why not take them over to the Miami Children’s Theatre for a live show?

All performances at the Theatre are produced, acted, and choreographed by children.

Watch these young and immensely talented performers showcase popular musicals such as Aladdin, Chicago, High School Edition, and even Once Upon a Mattress.

Seeing a show here is an amazing experience for children and adults alike.
