Temperatures
Daytime high temperatures tend to 7-9 C (45-48 F) early in the month, warming gradually to 12-14 C (54-57 F) near the end of the month.
A couple of the warmer afternoons, especially near the end of the month, can reach up to near 19 C (66 F). The record high temperature in Budapest during recent decades was 25 C (77 F).
Late night and early morning lows tend to be between -2 C and 2 C (28-36 F) early in the month, warming to 4 to 6 C (39-43 F) near the end of the month.
A few of the colder mornings, especially early in the month, can dip down near -7 C (19 F). The record low temperature in Budapest in recent decades is -16 C (3 F).
Sky and Precipitation
About 14 days this month will see sunny, or at least, partly sunny skies with about 17 mostly cloudy days.
About 5-6 days will record rainfall of at least 1 mm (0.04 inches) with about 1 day of these recording some snow.
Total snowfall in Budapest during March averages about 1-2 cm (0.4 to 1.2 inches), however, some years can see up to 10-12 cm (4-5 inches) of snow.
Daylight
The number of daylight hours increases rapidly this month from just over 11 hours on March 1st to about 12.8 hours by the 31st.
Wind Speed
Mostly light to gentle winds prevail this month at 6-19 kph (4-12 mph) but can occasionally be moderate at 20-28 kph (13-18 mph).
What to Wear in Budapest during March?
Early March will require some sweaters, a waterproof jacket, warm gloves, and socks. In addition, you may want to bring along a scarf, hat and gloves.
Near the end of March, you may be able to get by with a lighter jacket, layered with long-sleeved shirts. Don’t forget to bring some comfortable walking shoes!

March 15th is a national holiday in Hungary celebrating the anniversary of the 1848 Revolution. There will be a lot of fun things to do, and the Crown Jewels will be free to visit at the Hungarian Parliament.
There's usually also a St. Patrick's Day parade on the weekend after the holiday, which will be the 20th and 21st in 2024.
