The Weather in Prague in August

Summer weather continues during August with generally comfortable to occasionally warm temperatures.

However, a turn towards cooler weather occurs near the end of the month.


How Hot Is Prague in August?

Daytime high temperatures tend to be around 24 C (75-76 F) early in August but fall off to near 21-22 C (70-72 F) near the month’s end. 

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially early in August, can reach up near 31 C (88 F). 

The record high temperature in Prague during August is 35 C (95 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will be near 14 C (57-58 F) early in August, falling to near 12 C (54 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings near the end of this month can dip down near 8 C (46-47 F).

The record low temperature in Prague during August is 2.8 C (37 F).


Sun and Rain

You can expect 17-18 days this month with sunny, or at least partly sunny skies. 

Although 15–16 days will record some rain, only about 9 of these days will see rain totals of 1 mm (0.04 inches) or more.


Daylight

The hours of daylight decrease rapidly this month from about 15.2 hours on August 1st to 13.5 hours on the 31st.


Wind

The wind tends to be mostly light to gentle (6-19 kph/4-12 mph) but briefly can be moderate (20-28 kph/13-18mph). 


What to Wear in Prague in August?

It is still summer and afternoon temperatures tend to be comfortable to warm, however, nights can still be a bit chilly. 

Jeans and short sleeve shirts work well along with a pair of shorts for the warmer days. 

For the cooler nights and early mornings, you may need a windbreaker, a long-sleeved shirt or two, and perhaps a light sweater.

You should also pack an umbrella for those wet days and don’t forget a good pair of walking shoes.


Things to Do in Prague in August

There should be a lot of sunny days to enjoy this month, which makes August an excellent time to take a pay-what-you-wish walking tour in Prague.

You might also want to visit Prague Castle or enjoy the view from Petrin Tower!

If you're looking for a fun family activity, consider taking the kids to Prague Zoo.

There's even a combo ticket that includes a cruise to the zoo to make the experience even more enjoyable.

You can usually look forward to at least a few great concerts to attend in Prague during August, so if you want to listen to some live music, this might be a good time for it.
