The Weather in Prague in February

Prague in February tends to be very cold but mostly dry.

Precipitation is light and frequently occurs in the form of snow.


Temperature

Daytime high temperatures tend to be near 2-3 C (mid-30s F) early in the month, warming to near 5 C (41 F) near the end of the month. 

A few of the warmer afternoons can reach up near 12 C (53-54 F) near the end of this month.

The record high temperature for Prague during February is 18 C (about 64 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will most likely be around -3 C (26-27 F) early in the month, warming gradually to -1 C (about 30 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings, especially early in the month, can dip down to around -11 C (about 12 F). 

You should expect, on average, about 23 days recording low temperatures at or below 0 C (32 F) with 1 day dipping down near -17 C (0 F).

The record low temperature for Prague during February is -22 C (-8 F).


Clouds and Precipitation

Expect about 12 days this month will feature sunny or at least partly sunny skies.

Some precipitation falls on average, on 12 days, however only about 5 of these days will record amounts of at least 1 mm (0.04 inches). 

Snow falls on about 9 days but tends to be light. 

The total snowfall this month is normally only 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) and rarely exceeds 13 cm (about 5 inches).


Daylight

Daylight increases rapidly during February from about 9.3 hours on the 1st to 10.9 hours by the 28th. 


Windspeed

The wind tends to be mostly gentle (12-19 kph/8-12 mph) but occasionally will be moderate (20-28 kph/13-18mph). 


What to wear in Prague during February?

February is a cold month in Prague so you should pack a few sweaters and a warm winter coat.

Warm shoes or boots and a couple of thick pairs of socks will also come in handy when exploring Prague on foot. 

Also consider a pair of gloves and a scarf and don’t forget a good pair of walking shoes as well. 


Things to Do in Prague in February

It's getting closer to springtime, but there are usually at least a few days of snow in Prague during February.

So, you might want to consider visiting the Petrin Tower to see what the city looks like blanketed in snow.

On warmer days, you might want to consider going on a pay-what-you-wish Prague walking tour or seeing notable landmarks such as Prague Castle and Old Town Square.

St. Mathew's Fair usually opens up in February, so this could be a good time to enjoy a variety of games, rides, and live entertainment at the fair.

If you want to avoid the cold weather, consider going to a concert or theatrical performance.
