Autumn begins this month in Amsterdam so bring along a couple of long-sleeved shirts and sweaters and a light-weight jacket for the chillier days and colder nights.

For the warmer afternoons, light cotton tops and lighter-weight pants and shirts are best.

For rainy days, pack an umbrella or light rain jacket and don’t forget to bring comfortable walking shoes.

Things to Do in Amsterdam in September

Although the summer is nearing its end, there should still be quite a few sunny days this month, which means this would be as good a time as any to take a free walking tour in Amsterdam.

Another fun idea is to enjoy one of the many canal cruises that are always available throughout the year, as they offer a different perspective of the city.

If it's a particularly clear and sunny day, you might want to consider getting a better view of the city skyline from above at either the NEMO Science Centre or Amsterdam Central Library.

Since fall is on the horizon, you might want to take advantage of the last few warm days of the year with a walk through Vondelpark.
