How Is the Weather in Charleston in April?

April in Charleston features relatively dry weather, cool to comfortable nights, with comfortable to warm afternoons.


Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures tend to be around 70-72 F (21-22 C) early in the month, warming to 75-77 F (24-25 C) near the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially near the end of the month, can reach up near 84 F (29 C).

The record high temperature in Charleston during April is 95 F (35 C).

Late night and early morning low temperatures tend to average around 55-57 F (13-14 C) early in the month, warming to near 61-63 F (16-17 C) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings, especially early in the month, can dip down near 45 F (7 C).

The record low temperature in Charleston during April is 29 F (-1.7 C).


Sun and Rain

Charleston during April features 11 sunny, 8 partly sunny, and 11 mostly cloudy days.

Some rain falls on 6-7 days, however, only about 2 days will record at least 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) or more of rain. 


Daylight

The number of daylight hours continues to increase this month from about 12.5 hours on the 1st to about 13.5 hours by the 30th. This should allow you amble time to explore this great city.


Windspeed

The prevailing wind speeds during this month are mainly gentle at 8-12 mph (12-19 kph) but occasionally can be moderate at 13-18 mph (20-28 kph).


Ocean Temperatures

April ocean temperatures are a bit on the chilly side but do begin to warm this month from about 65 F (18 C) early in the month to near 70 F (21 C) by the end of the month. 


What to Wear in Charleston During April?

Spring weather prevails this month with a few warmer days, especially near the end of the month.

You should pack for variable conditions so bring along long-sleeve tops, a sweater or two, a light jacket or windbreaker, some jeans or other long pants or skirts, plus a couple of short-sleeve cotton shirts for the warmer days.

Don’t forget some nice evening shoes and a good pair of walking shoes.

Since the weather is warming up and flowers are starting to bloom, you might want to consider taking a pay-what-you-wish Charleston walking tour.

Spring also means the beginning of baseball season, so you can expect the Charleston Riverdogs to be playing a few home games this month.
