Ciampino Airport to Rome City Centre

Updated: August 2, 2023

This post gives you the best ways to get from the G. B. Pastine-Ciampino Airport to the city center in Rome, including trains, buses, private cars, and taxis.

THE TRAIN FROM CIAMPINO AIRPORT TO ROME

There is one train from Trenitalia that you can take into the city center.

The local train ride between Ciampino’s train station and Rome’s main Termini station is very cost-effective but it can be difficult to navigate your way to the station.

The direct journey takes 15 minutes (without any other stops) and trains depart in roughly 30-minute intervals. The ticket costs €1.50.

You can purchase your train tickets at the red kiosks at the train station.

The train runs between 5:30 am and 22:30 (10:30 pm) every day.

Purchase tickets ahead of time or learn more.

NOTE: You MUST validate your train ticket after purchasing it and before boarding the train. Green validation machines are located on the train platform.

However, the train station is located a five minutes bus ride from Ciampino airport. There are two buses you can take to get there:

COTRAL Bus

  • Runs every 10 - 40 minutes
  • €1.10 per journey
  • Tickets must be bought from Tobacco shops outside the airport building.

ATRAL Bus

  • Runs every 40 minutes
  • €1.20 per journey + €1.20 per bag
  • Tickets can be purchased at airport arrivals or on the bus itself.

If you’re planning on using Rome’s metro system from Rome Termini, this could be a good option.

If you have a lot of luggage or you don’t want to transfer between the bus and the train, taking an airport bus to Termini might be a better option.

We suggest you get Google map directions from Ciampino airport to double-check the most efficient route.
