Daytime high temperatures will tend to be around 4-6 C (39-43 F) early in the month, falling to 2-4 C (36-39 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially early in the month, can reach up near 11 C (52 F).

The record high temperature in Budapest during December is 19.2 C (66.6 F). 

Late night and early morning lows tend to average between -1 C and +1C (30-34 F) early in the month, falling to -2 to -3 C (27-28 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings, especially near the end of the month can dip down to around -11 C (12 F).

The record low temperature in Budapest during December is -19.1 C (-2.4 F).


Sun and Precipitation

About 11-12 days this month will be sunny, or at least partly sunny, with 19-20 days being mostly cloudy.

About 5-6 days record some precipitation which often falls as snow or mixed snow/rain.

Total snowfall during December tends to be light, averaging 4-6 cm (about 2 inches), however, as much as 14-18 cm (5.5-7 inches) can fall on rare occasions. 


Daylight

The number of daylight hours falls from about 8.8 hours on the 1st to about 8.4 hours on the 22nd.


Windspeed

Mostly light to gentle winds prevail this month at 6-19 kph (4-12 mph) but can occasionally be moderate at 20-28 kph (13-18 mph).


What to Wear in Budapest in December?

December in Budapest is cold so you should pack warm layers that include a thick, waterproof coat or thickly lined jacket.

Winter clothing including leggings and thermal underwear will come in handy, as well as warm water-resistant boots, leggings, or thermal underwear.

In addition, bring along warm socks, a scarf, a hat, and gloves. Don’t forget to bring some comfortable walking shoes!
