Weather in Las Vegas in January?

This post provides details about what kind of weather to expect in January in Las Vegas.

You can look forward to mostly dry weather with cool afternoons and cold nights.


Temperatures

Afternoon high temperatures tend to be in the upper 50s F (14-15 C) early in the month, warming slightly into the low 60s F (16-17 C) by the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, mostly later in the month, will reach up into the upper 60s F (20-21 C). 

The record high temperature in Las Vegas during January is 77F (25 C).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will mostly be in the mid to upper 30s F (about 3 C) warming to around 40F (4-5 C) by the end of the month. 

A few of the colder mornings, early in the month can dip down to around 30 F (-1 to -2 C), in fact, about 6 mornings on average, dip to 32F/0C or below. 

The record low temperature in Las Vegas during January is 8 F (-13.3 C).


Clouds and Rain

About 20 days this month will feature clear or at least partly sunny skies. 

Only about 3 days record any rain with significant rainfalls of 0.5 inches or more occurring only about one day every 5 years. 

Snow can occur but is rare in Las Vegas during January. 


Daylight and Wind

Daylight increases this month from about 9.75 hours on New Year’s Day to about 10.4 hours by the 31st. 

Wind speeds during January tend to be light to gentle (4-12 mph/6-19 kph) but can be briefly moderate (13-18mph/20-29 kph).


What to Wear in Las Vegas During January

Late Autumn attire will do well here during January but dress in layers as the temperature can change quite a bit from the early morning to midafternoon. 

In addition, a warm coat is a must for those colder nights and early mornings as well as warm footwear, a couple of sweaters plus a scarf and gloves for the coldest nights.

With lots of sun don’t forget a pair of sunglasses and a good pair of walking shoes. 


What to Do in Las Vegas in January

Although the weather is a bit cold this month, there is usually a lot of sun in January 2024, so you might want to consider taking a free walking tour in Las Vegas.

As usual, you can expect several great concerts, magic shows, and other fun indoor activities if you want to avoid the chilly weather.

If you're a fan of hockey, the Vegas Golden Knights typically play at least a handful of home games this month. Basketball fans can look forward to some NCAA games with the UNLV Rebels.
