Which Vienna City Pass is Best?

BOOK MY TOUR!
Updated: September 18, 2023

This post will cover each of the tourist discount attraction passes available in Vienna as well as other discount options.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to which pass is best.

It depends on the type of pass you need, how long you will be in Vienna, as well as whether you want public transportation and/or airport transfers to be included.

We explain each below.

All-Inclusive

This pass will allow you to pay one flat price for access to dozens of activities over the course of 1, 2, 3, or 6 days.

Rather than paying per attraction, this service offers free admission to several notable locations that you can visit during the allotted time specified on your pass.

Vienna Pass for Tourist Attraction Discounts

In order to get the most out of this pass, you will want to enjoy as many different landmarks, museums, tours, and other things to do as possible.

The more you use the pass, the more money you’ll save!

All-inclusive entrance fees usually offer fast-track entry at some of the tourist places included with the service, making it easier to save both time and money.

You’ll also receive a free guidebook with a map and details about each of the locations you can visit using this tourist pass.

The all-inclusive pass available in Vienna can be combined with a Travel Card which will make it easier to get around the city.

A red card for public transport and a white card for hop-on hop-off tours

If you decide not to use the pass for any reason, you can get a full refund at any point within 30 days of buying.

À la Carte

This type of entrance fee is different from the all-inclusive option in that you are paying one flat price for a specific number of attractions.

Passholders can choose 3, 4, or 5 different activities from a list of several popular options including landmarks, museums, tours, and more.

Vienna Flexi Pass for Tourist Attraction Discounts

While the all-inclusive pass is limited to a specific number of days, this option is valid for a total of 30 days, allowing you to take your time and enjoy each activity at your own leisure.

Unlike with other passes, the best way to save money with this service is by picking the most expensive attractions.

Much like their competition, some of the locations you can choose from will offer fast-track entry when you present your set number of tourist places pass.

They also include a free booklet with a map and information about each of the activities you can choose from with this service.

A set number of tourist places pass can be fully refunded within 7 days of buying if it has not yet been redeemed.

Travel Discount Pass

The third type of tourist attraction discount pass available in Vienna provides unlimited access to their public transit system in addition to deals on tickets for museums, landmarks, tours, and more.

Available for anywhere for 24, 48, or 72 hours at a time, this pass is valid for metro, trams, regional trains, buses, and night buses in the city.

Vienna Card for Tourist Attraction Discounts

While some of the other passes in Vienna only offer access to a few dozen tourist attractions, this service actually includes concessions for over 200 different activities.

In addition to deals on admission to various historic locations, there are also opportunities to save at restaurants, cafes, theaters, and other great entertainment venues.

Although the concessions aren’t always amazing, they can easily add up over time if you’re planning to visit a lot of different locations.

Another advantage of this option is that it’s one of the cheaper passes in the city.

So, even if you’re not saving much money on each activity you choose, you’ll probably still get a lot of value out of the service.

One thing we should note about a travel discount pass is that it can’t be returned for a full refund.

Combo Packages

While these aren’t tourist passes, they are a great way to save money on various activities in this city.

Some bus tours in Vienna offer special tickets which include additional attractions such as walking tours, cruises and more.

In addition to those options, there are also several combo packages available from other companies that combine admission for many different services.

Big Bus Vienna Double Decker

These combo deals usually include tours, museums, historic locations, and other locations or things to do in Vienna, like Explore Albertinaplatz, Experience the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel, Explore Kunsthistorisches Museum, Art and History at Albertina Museum, Navigate Vienna Airport with Ease, and Discover the Majesty of Hofburg Palace.

Although the discounts aren’t usually incredible, this option allows you to pay only for the activities you want to enjoy rather than paying one flat price for a bunch of different attractions.

That said, you may want to compare the prices of combo packages to tourist passes, as some of them will feature the same services and you might actually save more money with a discount pass instead.

A lot of the activities included are also similar to what you'll find on other passes, but there are a few stand-out options here and there to note.

The classical concert at Haus der Musik is perhaps one of the better examples of a unique activity.

But, you may also have an interest in the craft beer tasting tour or the street art tour.

Individual tickets for most of the included tourist places are €12-€24, but there are some activities worth €42-€44.

As long as you stick to the more expensive tours and tickets, you should be able to save a lot of money with the Go City Vienna Pass.

TRAVEL DISCOUNT PASS

This section will provide information about the travel pass which includes concessions on hundreds of different activities.

We will cover details such as prices, how to use the service, and a list of some discounted sites.

Vienna City Card

This card is specifically designed to make your exploration of the city easier and much more affordable.

Although the Vienna City Card does not include a bus tour, it does provide unlimited access to the public transportation system.

Owners of this travel discount pass will be able to use the metro, regional trains, trams, buses, and night buses for 24, 48, or 72 hours.

In addition to covering transportation costs, this service also offers discounts on more than 200 different historic sites, museums, tours, theatres, restaurants, and more.

The deals included are usually somewhere between 10 - 25% off, but there are some attractions that are up to 40 - 50% off.

Here are some of the locations and activities discounted using the Vienna City Card:

  • Belvedere
  • City Cruise
  • House of Music
  • Imperial Treasury
  • Beethoven Museum
  • Giant Ferris Wheel
  • Children’s Museum
  • Hop-on-Hop-off Bus Tour

    • Cost Per Day: €12,50
  • 72-Hour Pass: €29
    • Cost Per Day: €9,66

Purchase the Vienna City Card or learn more.

Although this tourist pass won’t save you as much money as others on specific activities, it’s also a lot more affordable than some of the other options in Vienna.

At less than €10 per day for the 72-hour card, you’d only be paying around €2 more for the additional discounts than it would cost for a public transport pass alone.

Most concessions are around €1-€3 off at each location, so all you have to do to get value out of the Vienna City Card is to use it at more than one location per day.

The more places you visit, the more money you’ll end up saving.

If you go to 4-5 different attractions each day, you could easily save more than €10 per day, making the cost of your transportation entirely free!

The only concern you may have with this tourist pass is that it cannot be returned for a refund at any point in time.

In other words, you should be absolutely positive you want this card before making a buying.
