Attention foodies and history lovers.  Free Tours by Foot is proud to now offer New Orleans Culinary History tours.  This city is famous for its food, from gumbo to jambalaya and po’ boys to etoufees.  Many dishes have some substantial ingredients in addition to its delicious spices and that is history, culture and spirit.  With one of the most diverse populations in the country, there’s always something new on the stove in the Big Easy just waiting to be discovered.  Learn about Cajun and Creole styles, and where the best locales are to get them.  Like our walking tours, our New Orleans food tours are free to take, leaving you the opportunity determine what a tour was worth after the tour is over, even free.

Our French Quarter Food & History Tour will make you understand New Orleans’ love of food.  Every visitor coming to New Orleans should try the many local dishes, but be warned: many fall in love with it and will crave it for as long as they can think.  During our French Quarter culinary history tour, we will combine history and story-telling so that you have the education under your belt to be the most discerning foodie in one of the best culinary cities in the world.  As we travel from stop to stop during the French Quarter our guides will weave the lore of what dishes make New Orleans food identity.  Our expert guides will share personal anecdotes about some of New Orleans most famous restaurants and chefs.  Walk with us past famous landmarks such as the St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square. Your personable guide will describe the beautiful architecture and intriguing history.  Most importantly you will learn the differences between Creole and Cajun cuisine!

The tour will feast your ears and eyes and inspire your appetite -  we will start at 10am and conclude at lunch time at The French Market where guests will have the opportunity to try their most favored dishes at the lunch time hour.  Some of the many food choices discussed will include:

Please note: Only the last stop where the tour ends, will allow for some food tastings. YOU choose what to sample and how much to spend. Suggested amount to bring for snacks is $10 to $15, depending on your appetite!

Reservations: REQUIRED. Click here to reserve.  Groups of 10 or more persons should visit our group inquiry page.

Where: Meet inside the courtyard of Antoine's Annex at 513 Royal St.  Use our Google map for directions to the start of the tour.  Your guide will email you their photo the night before the tour.

Duration: Approximately 2 hours. Approximately 1 mile in length.

When: 10am, Monday-Friday.

Cost: name-your-own-price tourGroups of 6-9 must prepay $10/person. Groups of 10 or more must organize a private tour and can read about our options for groups.  Suggested amount to bring for snacks is $7-10, depending on your appetite!
