There are so many shows on Broadway, it can be really hard to choose.
It can also be hard to recommend shows- everyone has different tastes!
I have gone to see shows that I thought were brilliant, only to have my theater companion tell me at the end that they thought it was terrible.
I have seen shows that critics raved about that just didn’t do it for me. That is just the way it goes.
But every now and then, there are shows that seem to appeal to just about everyone who sees them.
This post is about one of those shows: MJ The Musical.
I can honestly say that EVERYONE I have talked to who has seen MJ has loved it.
My 81-year-old voice teacher who has starred in numerous Broadway shows loved it.
Tourists who were in NYC for the first time and had never seen a Broadway show loved it.
People who are Michael Jackson fanatics loved it. People who know his music but aren’t superfans loved it.
So, with so many people raving about the show, you should at least consider checking it out!
But, like many popular Broadway shows, this one can get pricey.
This post is about how to get discounted tickets to MJ The Musical on Broadway, including $40 digital lottery mezzanine tickets and other discounts.
MJ The Musical opened in December 2021. This tribute in song and dance to the legendary Michael Jackson instantly became a smash hit.
The show offers a look at the life of this iconic pop star through the lens of more than 25 of Jackson’s most famous songs, like “Beat It”, “Thriller” and “Billie Jean”.
These hits are set to dynamic choreography that earned director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon his second “Best Choreography” Tony Award.
Sidebar: Christopher Wheeldon is probably my favorite choreographer working right now- I will see just about anything he works on.
The awesome dancing ALONE makes this show worth it!

How Much Does It Cost To See MJ The Musical On Broadway?
Tickets are on sale through TodayTix and other online vendors with a few discount options available.
I love TodayTix- it is my go-to option if I am not going to do lottery or standing room-type options.
You should always look at all of your options though.
Sometimes you can find slightly cheaper tickets on StubHub and Ticketmaster- or better seats for the same price as TodayTix. It's worth a look.
Regular-priced tickets through TodayTix usually start from about $99 for mezzanine seating and can reach $250 for premium seating, depending on the day of the week.
Digital Lottery Tickets
MJ The Musical also offers a digital lottery where you can enter online to win same-day discount tickets.
Tickets cost just $49!
Starting at 9 am on the day of the show you can fill out a form and enter.
After the lottery closes at 3 pm, you will be notified via email within minutes as to whether you won or not.
You will have 60 minutes to pay by credit card if you are notified you have won.
I love digital lotteries. The odds of winning aren’t as high (because a lot of people enter), but it is so easy.
You fill out the form, and go about your day.
I do always set an alarm to check my email though- you don’t want to miss you buying window if you win!
Seats are assigned at the discretion of the box office and cannot be transferred to other people or performances.
Please note that lottery seats may have a partially obstructed view of the stage.
Personally, I do not think you should be discouraged by “partially obstructed view” seats.
Here’s the deal- if there is not a 100% clear view of the stage, the ticket must be labeled partial view.
It typically means that just a very small portion of your view is cut off. I sat in a partial view seat a few weeks ago (for a different show).
There was a bar from the front of the balcony in my view of the very edge of the stage.
It did not bother me for the entire performance.

Some shows have an in-person lottery at the theater box office but at this time, MJ The Musical does not.

If a show is completely sold-out, MJ will sell standing-room tickets 2 hours before the curtain time. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- The show must be COMPLETELY sold out for this to happen. I recommend calling the box office on the day you are thinking of going to ask if they are sold out.
- If they are, you are not likely to get standing room tickets if you stroll up right at 2 hours before. People will begin lining up early. You will want to plan to be in line at least an hour before the tickets are released.
- Standing room is exactly what it sounds like. You will be standing for the entire show. Make sure that this is something you are up for! (And plan your shoe choices accordingly.)

Other Discounts For MJ The Musical Tickets
It's always worth it to take a look at Groupon or Goldstar to see if there are any discount tickets for MJ The Musical available.
Many tourist discount passes offer savings on select Broadway shows, including Hamilton.
- The New York Pass can save you up to 10% off the full price on specific Broadway shows.
- The Sightseeing Pass and The Sightseeing Flex Pass get you $20 off tickets.
It's tough to say whether these discounts are worth much as you need to educate yourself about how much a full-price ticket is going for.
There are, of course, many other benefits of getting a tourist pass.
The biggest benefit is saving a great deal of money. Some passes can save you up to 55% on your itinerary of attractions to see.

Military and Student Discounts
Sometimes there are military and student tickets available.
This isn't always the case, so it's best to visit the show's FAQ page to confirm.
However, when available, both discounts are usually available for Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday evening performances only.
Tickets at a discount military rate are also available online at www.GovX.com.
