Where to go Ice Skating in Washington, DC

This post will inform you about the ice skating rinks in DC. We include hours, ticket prices, and suggestions to make your experience great accurate for the 2020-2021 season.

Many ice skating rinks are CLOSED for 2020-2021 season. Pentagon Row is OPEN. The Wharf and Canal Rink have not updated information for 2020-2021 but also haven't stated that they will be closed.

The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink is closed for the 2020-2021 season.

The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink is a great place to skate downtown.

Located on the National Mall, with this skating rink you'll be surrounded by incredible artwork.

There are also a number of holiday-related activities at the National Gallery just next door including concerts, gallery talks, and caroling. 


Open: November 15, 2019–March 15, 2020 (weather permitting).

Location: 7th and Constitution, NW just across the street from the National Archives on the National Mall.

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 10am-9pm, Friday: 10am-11pm;  Saturday: 11am- 11pm, Sunday: 11am-9pm.

Tickets are sold for two 45-minute sessions at the top of the hour.

Skating Fee: Adults: $9; Kids (12 & under)/seniors (50+): $8; Seasonal passes for $195.

Skate Rentals: $4.

Great for: Post Museum reward. This rink is a quick walk from any number of downtown and National Mall museums.


Canal Park Ice Rink includes both public skates and lessons, making it perfect for newcomers and seasoned experts alike. 



Open: November- February.

Location: 2nd and M Street, SE, it is just one block from the Navy Yard Metro

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 12pm-10pm, Friday: 12pm-11pm, Saturday: 10am-11pm, Sunday 10am-10pm.

Prices: Adults: $10, Kids/Seniors/Military: $9, Group rates available for 10+ people, Seasonal Passes available. 

Skate Rentals: $5.

Great for: Introverts. This is a local neighborhood rink so you'll find fewer crowds and more families.


The Washington Harbor Ice Rink is closed for the 2020 season.

From the Washington Harbor Ice Rink, you can enjoy a scenic view of the Potomac River and historic Georgetown at one of the largest ice skating rinks (even bigger than Rockefeller Center in New York!).

Open: November 15, 2019 - March 15, 2020.

Location: 3000 K Street in Georgetown.

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 12pm-9pm, Friday: 12pm-10pm, Saturday: 10am-10pm, Sunday: 10am-9pm.

Prices: Adults: $10, Kids/Seniors/Military: $9 

Skate Rentals: $6 (Push penguins are available at no cost!)

Great For: Date night! This rink is surrounded by bars and restaurants, making it perfect for date night.

The historic setting is illuminated with rows of lights above the rink for a true winter wonderland feeling.


The Ice Rink at The Wharf is located in DC's newest hot spot. The Wharf was recently renovated offering new restaurants, a concert venue, and an ice rink on the pier.

Open: TBD - there is not information on whether this rink will be opening for 2020-2021 season.

Location: Transit Pier, 960 Wharf Street SW.

Hours: Monday & Tuesday: 12:00–7:00pm, Wednesday & Thursday: 12:00–9:00pm, Friday: 12:00–11:00pm, Saturday: 11:00am–11:00pm, Sunday: 11:00am–7:00pm.

Prices: Adult $12 ($2 discount for Active Military and Seniors), Child $8 (12 years and younger). Note: This is a cash-free business so bring a credit card!

Skate Rentals: $6.

Great For: Everyone! This is one of our favorite places in the city - great places to eat, live music, and the hot chocolate from Dolcezza makes you forget how cold being in the winter!


At the Pentagon Row Outdoor Skating Rink, snow falls every night on the rink in December! 



Open: Late October- mid-March. Pentagon Row Ice Rink is OPEN for 2020 Season with safety protocols in place.

Location: 1201 S Joyce Street  - just behind Pentagon City Mall and easily accessible by Pentagon City Metro station.

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 12pm-10pm, Friday: 12pm-11pm, Saturday: 10am-11pm, Sunday: 10am-10pm. 

Prices: Adults (13 & up): $10, Kids/Seniors (55+): $9

Skate Rentals: $5

Great for: Families! There are always lots of kids at this rink. With restaurants and cafes surrounding it, there is plenty for adults to do while their kids skate.
