How is the Weather in Madrid During February?

February in Madrid tends to be cold but relatively dry.


Temperatures

Daytime high temperatures will tend to be around 11-12 C (52-53 F) early in the month, gradually warming to 13-14 C (56-57 F) near the end of the month. 

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially near the end of this month, can reach up near 19 C (66F). 

The record high temperature in Madrid during February is 22 C (71.6 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will tend to be around 1-2 C (34-36 F) early in the month, rising to near 3-5 C (37-41 F) near the end of the month.

A few of the colder mornings, especially early in the month, can dip down near -4 C (25 F).

The record low temperature in Madrid during February is -9.1 C (15.6 F). 


Sky and Rain

About 15-16 days this month will be sunny, or at least, partly sunny with 12-13 mostly cloudy days, of which about 5 will record some rain.

Snow is rare, occurring only about once every 2-3 years and often mixed with rain.


Daylight 

The number of daylight hours increases this month from about 10.1 hours on the 1st to about 11.2 hours by the 28th.


Wind speed

Mostly light to gentle winds prevail this month at 6-19 kph (4-12 mph) but can occasionally be moderate at 20-28 kph (13-18 mph).


What to Wear in Madrid during February?

You will need warm winter clothes this month including a warm jacket or coat as well as hat & gloves.

In addition, long pants, sweaters, and warm socks may come in handy.

You should also consider a lighter jacket for the warmer afternoons, especially later in the month.

Don't forget some warm comfortable walking shoes or boots.


Things to Do in Madrid in February

Even during the winter, there's rarely much rain or snow in Madrid, so it's almost always a good time to take a free walking tour.

Locals recommend visiting the museums such as the Escher and the Prado during this time, as it's usually pretty cold, and there aren't as many tourists.

If you're going to be here during a Sunday, consider going to the El Rastro flea market for unique souvenirs to bring back home with you!
