Where to Store Luggage in New York City

Updated: 18 noviembre 2023

In this post, we provide several methods for luggage storage in NYC, including one that will pick up and drop off your luggage.

You can now store your bags at just about any kind of business.

PUBLIC LOCKERS IN NYC

We need to start here.

The days of the public, coin, or credit card-operated lockers at train stations, bus terminals, and airports in NYC are over.

To the extent that these lockers do exist, they are usually limited to the time someone is visiting a particular location, such as the Statue of Liberty.

If you are staying at a traditional hotel, check with your bellhop or concierge about on-site luggage lockers or a storage room.

Usually, guests can store their luggage free of charge.

LUGGAGE STORAGE (THE SHARING ECONOMY)

Vertoe

Vertoe (and its competitors below) employ a similar system to Airbnb but for luggage.

They find convenient locations for travelers, such as souvenir and gift shops, convenience stores, or hotels, that are open early and close late and have the capacity and the security to hold your baggage.

NYC Luggage Storage

Vertoe is America’s largest on-demand short-term storage provider with a presence in over 20 major cities with 300+ locations in the US, as well as 45+ major international cities with 500 + locations.

They have over 125 locations in New York City alone and they are adding locations very rapidly.

They have locations at many major transit spots, such as Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal, Port Authority, JFK Airport, and Newark Airport.

Many of their locations are open 24/7.

Vertoe’s rates are among the cheapest in New York City. Bags cost $5.95/day (online price) and they have deals for groups.

They offer a very generous $5,000 in insurance and provide complimentary tamper-proof security seals at their locations.

Vertoe users get to rate and review each of their locations, reviews that you could read before checking your bags. They offer 24-hour customer service.

Additional Companies

Some of the below companies may have additional benefits you'd like or offer more convenient locations or hours for you than Vertoe.

This company has a variety of different storage locations in NYC that they call "Angels."

These sites could be located at hotels, bodegas, restaurants, and even some notable attractions such as Grand Central Terminal, Hudson Yards, Wall Street, the World Trade Center, and many others.

The cost is a flat rate of $6 a day per bag, with $1200 in insurance coverage.

MOBILE LUGGAGE STORAGE

My Bag Check

The latest trend in luggage storage is pick-up/drop-off services.

Rather than you bringing your luggage to a facility, this company will come to you and pick up your luggage.

They will store it securely for the desired amount of time, and then return it to you at any location you request.

This type of storage is more expensive than the Airbnb luggage storage services mentioned above.

But for those who value convenience over cost, this type of service could be worth it.

And since these services can drop off your luggage at airports and train stations, they also allow you to travel without carrying your bags.

Expect to pay between $15 - $25 per bag per day (assuming 2 bags in an order).

Pricing depends on where your bags are being picked up and dropped off and time.

This is the only app-based, on-demand luggage pickup/delivery service. My Bag Check operates 24 hours, 7 days a week.

It is very simple to use. Through the app, schedule your luggage pick-up time/location and delivery time/location.

Enter a description of your bag(s) and take a photo. Confirm your request and at the designated time, a driver will come pick-up your bags.

While you are out and about, your luggage is stored in a secure facility. It is returned to you at the time/location you requested.

The flat fee includes insurance up to $100. You can purchase additional insurance up to $500.

This service takes advantage of taxi-share programs, such as Uber and Lyft, for drivers.

Go to their website to book

  • Manhattan Orders - $35
  • Manhattan to Borough OR Borough to Borough - $50
  • Borough (excluding Manhattan) to Airport - $80
  • Manhattan to Airport or From Airports (Order Origination) - $100
