Weather in January

Overnight lows typically range from the mid to upper 40s F, with daytime highs often in the lower 60s F (15-17 C) (7-9C).

In previous years, January weather has seen extremes with highs of 83F (28.3 C) and lows of 14F. (-10 C).

Weather in February

Early this month, daytime highs typically range from the lower 60s F (16–17 C) to the middle 40s F overnight and in the early morning (7-8 C).

The weather will gradually warm as the month goes on, especially towards the end of this month.

The early morning lows will often range from the low to mid-50s F while the afternoon highs will be generally in the mid to upper 60s F (19-20 C) (11-12 C).

This month, there will be approximately 14 days with sunny or at least partly sunny skies and about 8 or 9 days with some rain.

Weather in March

Early in March, afternoon highs typically reach the upper 60s Fahrenheit (20–21 C), while nightly lows typically range from the low to mid-50s Fahrenheit (11 - 12 C).

The afternoon high temperatures will increase into the mid-70s F (23 to 24 C) as the month goes on, with a few of the warmer days reaching or above 82 F (28 C).

About 16 days in March are bright or at least partly sunny in New Orleans. About eight days a week will see some rain, although only two to three days a week have major rainfalls of at least 0.5 inches (13mm).

Weather in April

Early in April, daytime highs will often hit the mid-70s F (23 to 25 C), while early morning lows will typically range from the upper 50s F to the lower 60s F (13-17 C).

The afternoon highs will climb to the lower 80s F (27-28 C) towards the end of this month, with a few days hitting or above 86 F. (30 C).

Temperatures rarely exceed 90 F (approximately 32 C) this month, with the all-time extreme high being 92 F (33 C).

This month, there will be about 18 days with mostly sunny skies, and on about 6-7 days, there will likely be some rain. In general, 1/2 inch (13mm) or more of rain falls every two to three days.

Weather in May

The weather is at its most pleasant early in the month, with morning lows typically in the mid to upper 60s F (18-21 C) and afternoon highs typically in the lower 80s F (27-28 C).

The afternoon highs are generally in the mid to upper 80s F (30-31 C) as the month goes on, with roughly 4 days this month hitting or above 90 F (32 C).

This month typically has about 20 days with sunny or at least partly sunny skies, making this an ideal time to see the city.

Rainfall occurs on approximately 7 days, with 3 of those registering at least 1/2 inch (13mm) of precipitation.

Weather in June

Early in June, daytime highs are often in the upper 80s F (30-32 C), while early morning lows are typically in the low to mid-70s F (22-24 C).

By the end of June, the morning and evening lows are typically in the mid to upper 70s F (24-26 C), while daily high temperatures are frequently in the lower 90s F (32–33 C).

About half of the days this month are likely to hit 90 F (32 C) or above.

This month, on average, there will be approximately 21 days with sunny or at least partly sunny skies, giving you plenty of time to explore this wonderful city.

Weather in July

In New Orleans, July is quite hot and muggy, with a lot of showers and thunderstorm activity.

The early morning and evening low temperatures are often in the mid to upper 70s F with daily high temperatures typically in the middle 90s F (32-33C) (24-26C).

This month, there will be 20 to 21 days with highs at or above 90 F. (32C).

Weather in New Orleans in July

In the past, July temperatures in New Orleans have reached extremes from a low of 60 F (16 C) to a high of 101 F (38C).

There are still plenty of pleasant days to explore all that this city has to offer, with sunny or at least partly sunny skies expected on roughly 14 days this month.

Weather in August

August in New Orleans is typically hot and muggy, with daily highs generally in the lower 90s F (32-33 C).

Low temperatures in the late evening and early morning are also frequently warm, typically averaging in the mid to upper 70s F (25 to 26 C) with a few mornings falling into the mid-70s (about 23 C).

This month, on average, there will be 23 days that exceed 90 F (32 C), with a few afternoons reaching the mid-to-upper 90s F (36-37 C).

Despite the high humidity and temperatures, August in New Orleans typically has 13 to 16 days with clear or at least partly sunny skies.

Weather in September

Daytime highs in early September typically hover around 90 F (32 C), with a few of the warmer days reaching the mid-90s F (about 35 C).

Towards the end of this month, highs are expected to reach the mid-80s F (28 C-29 C).

This month, there will be 10 or fewer days with highs exceeding 90 F (32 C), which is approximately half as many days as there were in August.

Early in the month, low temperatures at midnight and in the morning are typically in the mid to high 70s F (about 25 C), but by the end of the month, they are more likely to be in the lower 70s F (21 C–22 C).

Weather in October

The days are warm early in the month, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-80s F (about 29C).

In the early part of the month, just around 1 day can be anticipated with temperatures of 90 F (32C) or above.

As the month goes on, afternoon highs drop to the upper to mid-seventies (approximately 24C), while overnight lows drop into the upper fifties (about 14C).

Approximately 22 days will have bright or partly sunny skies, while about 9 days will have cloudy skies.

On average, significant rainfall of 0.5 inches (approximately 13mm) or more happens on around 2 days in October, with some rain forecast on about 6 or 7 of those days.

Weather in November

Early November is typically mild with daytime highs in the mid-70s F (24–25 C) and comfortable overnight or early-morning lows in the upper 50s F (14-15C).

As this month draws to a close, the daytime highs will likely be in the mid to upper 60s F (about 20C).

Lows in the early mornings are around 50 F (10 C), with a few mornings dropping into the low to mid-40s F (about 6 C).

This month, there will be about 18 days with sunny or at least partially sunny skies, while the remaining 12 days will be primarily cloudy.

Weather in December

Early in the month, nightly lows are often around 50 F (approximately 20C) and daytime highs are typically in the upper 60s F (10C).

A few afternoons a week, the temperature may reach the mid-70s F (23-24C).

As the month goes on, afternoon highs often range in the lower 60s F (16–17C), while morning lows typically fall in the 30s F (1-2C), with one or two of these days reaching 32 F (0C) or lower.

About 15 days will be sunny or at least partly sunny, and just 3 of these days will see considerable rainfall of at least 1/2 inch (13mm), which will fall on the other 9 days.

When is Hurricane Season in New Orleans?

At the height of the hurricane season in September, New Orleans has a 1 in 3 probability of experiencing tropical storm-force wind gusts. 

You can also expect a 1 in 10 chance of experiencing hurricane-force wind gusts from June through November.

While a hurricane is possible throughout this period, chances are that this event will take place in the late summer or early autumn.


What is the Coldest Month in New Orleans?

Early morning lows in December typically range from the mid-30s to low-32 degrees F (0 C) on 1 or 2 occasions.

In January, a few cooler mornings will drop to the mid-30s F (3 C) or lower, with a few of those falling to 32F (0 C) or below.

Temperatures as low as 14 F have been recorded in January in New Orleans in previous years (-10 C).

The lower 30s F (3–4 C) or less are possible on a few of the chillier mornings, and 32 F (0 C) or less may be reached on 1-2 of these occasions.

In the previous Februaries, NOLA had temperature extremes as low as 16 F (-8.9 C).

It almost never snows in New Orleans, but if it does, it’s likely to happen sometime between December and February.


What is the Warmest Month in New Orleans?

In New Orleans, July is quite hot and muggy, with a lot of showers and thunderstorm activity.

In the past, July temperatures in New Orleans have ranged from a high of 101 F (38C).

August in New Orleans is typically hot and muggy, with daily highs generally in the lower 90s F. (32-33 C).

In August, 102 F was the highest temperature ever recorded in New Orleans (38.9 C).

While it has also gotten as high as 101 F in both June and September, you’re far more likely to experience those temperatures in July or August.
