Old Dubai Prism Tour- Educational Field Trip

What is the structure of the tour?

Our walking tours can go on for a duration of one to three hours as per your need. The Old Dubai Prism Tour is our top selling educational field trip, which takes place in the historic Al Fahidi region of the district (formerly known as Bastakiya).

On our Old Dubai Prism Tour, we offer students an interactive and sensory experience, filled with story-telling, trivia, treasure hunts, and activities to help them understand the history and culture of our country. We also focus on the historical journey of the Emirati people from Nomadic Bedouin life to the modern-day development. Our tour also includes a visit to the Dubai Museum where we explain the students the history of the pearl diving industry in UAE.

It is generally a three-hour walking tour with approximately one hour for each section.
Section 1: Bastakiya
Section 2: Dubai Museum
Section 3: Textile and Spice Souk along with the Abra Ride across the Creek

What is the itinerary of the tour?

The tour first focuses on introducing the students to the history of Dubai and UAE, and how its economy was back in the 1900s. We talk about the Bedouin life, the ruling kingdom of Dubai and the origin and importance of coffee in this region. We shed light on Bastakiya and its role in Dubai’s development.

The next hour of the tour focuses on Pearl Diving, as we walk to the Dubai Museum to delve into the early days of Dubai when fisheries and pearl diving was the main source of revenue for the district.

The next hour includes a fun Abra ride across the Creek (students love the boat ride!) as we walk through the Textile Souk to the Spice Souk. Here the students learn about the different spices and their origin.

To sum it up, the tour includes:

  • Bastakiya
  • Bedouin Camp
  • Coffee Museum
  • Dubai Museum
  • Pearl Museum
  • Abra ride (for students above 7 years of age)
  • A detailed presentation on pearling and Bedouin life in the Past
  • Souks

Each section of the tour is included with activities and quizzes to keep up with the interest of the students.

The first hour of the tour in Bastakiya includes a quiz contest where students are grouped in teams to answer questions testing their knowledge of what they have learned so far on the tour. It is a helpful activity that tests what they have retained from the field trip so far, also helping them in team building and maintaining their excitement and energy level through the trip. We ask them questions related to coffee, the Bedouins and the wind tower systems in Old Dubai. The winning team is awarded.

The second hour of the tour includes a postcard writing activity in the foyer of the Dubai Museum, where the students also take a little break before the next stop. We provide each student with a postcard to write a note to someone they love, telling them about the tour and what they have learned from it. The postcards can be sent to the address the students provide.

It helps the students to give their parents or loved ones, a snapshot of their time away.

Here, we also present the students with their certificate of participation and click group photos that are sent to the teachers after the tour.

Why should you book an educational trip with Dubai By Foot?

Our Old Dubai Prism Tour focuses on the in-class learning of the students to help them understand the history of Dubai better. Our tours are known to inspire students for the culture and history of UAE.

We have over a decade of experience in providing and organizing school tours for students across Europe and America. We have trained-licensed guides to provide tours for the students. Moreover, to ensure a better guide to student ratio, we assign not more than twenty students to one guide.

We have recently provided educational Old Dubai tours to students of Collegiate American School, Nibras International School, GEMS National School, Kent College Dubai and Ranches Primary School, Dubai.

Our guides are trained to answer all questions your students might have. Also, when you share with us what the students are learning in school, we customize the entire tour as per their learning. Therefore, we make sure that curriculum elements are a part of the tour to give the students first-hand experience. From Old Dubai, Pearl Diving and Trade, to Bedouin Life and to the major developments in Dubai history, our tours are famous for the depth of knowledge they delve into.

We turn the tour into a mobile classroom, where students enjoy, learn and test their knowledge at the same time. Also, most of the students visit the Historic Old Dubai for the very first time.

Our educational trip is well designed to stimulate learning beyond the textbooks as students visit historic relics themselves. Our Old Dubai Prism Tour- Educational Field Trip is a customized version of our top-selling and signature tour, Old Dubai and Souk Walking Tour, which is loved by all our guests.
