What to Do with Kids in Las Vegas

Updated: October 12, 2023

This post covers things to do with kids in Las Vegas, including nighttime activities, free things to do, museums, attractions, and tours.

TOP 20 THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS IN LAS VEGAS

Everywhere you turn in Las Vegas, there is something to do.

Whether there are blinking neon signs pointing you in all directions, or you just don’t know which activities are worth it, our top 20 list will show you what we recommend for family activities.

Free Tours By Foot has extensive experience providing walking tours in various tourist destinations across the world, so our guides often have a lot of helpful tips for the best places to visit in each major city.

We've used that experience to compile the list below, and for more tips and advice we recommend checking our FAQ at the bottom of this article.

Don't forget to take a look at our other popular Las Vegas posts:

(1) Find Kid-Friendly Tours

Las Vegas isn’t just for gamblers and club hoppers. See as much of Las Vegas as you can - with commentary - during a Hop-On-Hop-Off tour from Big Bus Tours.

From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., you can ride the Strip Tour Red Route and the Old Vegas Blue Route.

This will help you understand the city’s history and pick out other attractions you can take the family to.

Your guide will also know about popular, non-gambling activities.

Check out our Las Vegas bus tour comparison to see which one is best for your family.

If you have the time for a half-day or full-day tour, there are also several tours to see the Grand Canyon from Sin City!

TIP: While not a tour, the monorail that makes 7 stops along the Strip is an affordable form of public transportation that would also be a fun way for the family to get a bird's-eye view of Las Vegas.

NOTE: This activity is included at no additional cost with both the Go City Las Vegas Pass and the Las Vegas Sightseeing Pass.

(2) Attend a Sporting Event

Las Vegas is all about the adrenaline rush, and what gives you that more than cheering on your favorite team?

There are enough games in the city to get you through the year.

If you root for a team as a family, this could be a great bonding activity.

And don’t forget to take a selfie with the Coca-Cola bear!

Open Hours:

  • Every day from 10:00 am - 11:00 pm

(10) Explore the LINQ Promenade

Find dining, retail, and entertainment options every step you take at the LINQ Promenade. This pedestrian-only fairway is home to the High Roller, a 550-foot-tall observation wheel that is the largest in the world. Ride during the day or night to see the rest of the city.

While this can be a fun family activity, we must note that this animal sanctuary is on the outskirts of the city, so you'll need to drive at least 15-20 minutes south of the strip to get here.

As long as transportation isn't a problem, the Lion Habitat Ranch is a great spot that will take you away from the bright lights and noise for a short while.

(19) Seven Magic Mountains

Venture just beyond the city limits to encounter a mesmerizing art installation – the Seven Magic Mountains. This colorful desert spectacle contrasts the natural landscape with vibrant, man-made towers.

FREE THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS

Las Vegas might be the land of excess, but there are still plenty of affordable options. Here is our list of free and family-friendly things to do in the city.

For more free things to do, check out our full free activity post for Las Vegas.

Pinball Hall of Fame and Museum

Whether you want to get in out of the desert heat or just love some games, the Pinball Hall of Fame is a perfect place to spend your afternoon or evening. The hall of fame is not-for-profit and free to enter. You’ll want to bring some cash to convert to quarters to play the games, however.

Since they are a non-profit, all proceeds are donated to the Salvation Army.

They’re open every day form 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, which is plenty of time to strike up a family tournament.

Silverton Aquarium Mermaids

Have a kid who loves the Little Mermaid? You should definitely visit the Silverton’s aquarium, which features regular mermaid swims. While you could get a small lunch table for up-close interaction, there is also a free viewing area.

During the summer, you should get to the tank 10 minutes or so before each swim starts if you want front-row viewing.

Swim Times:

  • Thursday - Saturday 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm | 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm | 5:00 pm - 8:15 pm
  • Sundays 10:30 am - 1:10 pm | 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm | 5:00 pm - 6:45 pm

Marine Biologist Fish Feedings:

There will be 15-minute intervals of rest throughout each swim time. A fun touch tank is also available Friday - Sunday from 4:00 pm - 4:15 pm.

  • Rainstorm at Miracle Mile Shops

Circus Circus Acts at Carnival Midway

Circus Circus is a hotel, casino, and entertainment hub. Their Carnival Midway is great for the whole family, with free circus acts on display throughout the day. You can see trapeze artists defy gravity, feats of strength, aerial silk performances, juggling, slacklining, and unicycling, among others.

Performances start at 11:30 am every day, and happen hourly until at least 10:30 pm. Check the schedule to see which acts happen through midnight.

The Fall of Atlantis

The Forum Shops at Caesars is home to a family feud. Every hour, on the hour, between 11:00 am and 10:00 or 11:00 pm depending on the day. This free show features animatronic Greek gods fighting over the mythical Atlantis.

It is a popular show with mediocre sound quality - so if you want to be able to hear all the drama, arrive a few minutes early to get close to the speakers. Between the crowds and the fire effects, it can be difficult to hear from far away.

M&M’s World

The Las Vegas M&M’s experience is a four-level chocolate wonderland. While the goal of this large store is to get you to buy M&M’s in bulk, there are four floors of displays and Instagrammable stockpiles of candy.

If you’re a NASCAR fan, a replica of the M&M stock car is on the top floor. Younger visitors might enjoy the 3D movie on one of the upper floors, which plays every day except Friday. And anyone can make their own custom-printed M&Ms (for a fee) with some of the images that are available.

Open Hours:

  • Sunday - Saturday from 9:00 am - midnight

Red Rock Canyon Hiking

Get away from the city for a bit and go hiking! Red Rock Canyon is perfect for an active family activity. The kids can get all of their energy out, and everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of the desert mountains and canyons.

There is a $15 fee for parking your car, but you can choose any of the loops and stay as long as you like. We do advise going early in the morning in the summertime, and always bringing plenty of water no matter the time of year.

Downtown Container Park

Using shipping containers to build a shopping center is no longer just for hipsters - everyone is doing it. And Las Vegas now has a very popular container park of their own, right in the middle of downtown.

There is something for everyone in the Downtown Container Park - from clothes, souvenirs, or sweets shops to dining options, an outdoor concert space, and a very large playground right in the middle.

The playground offers:

  • A treehouse
  • Slides
  • Shade for hot days
  • A splash pad to cool off
  • Giant, soft building blocks
  • A dome for light shows
  • A giant, steampunk praying mantis with flame-throwing antennae

That praying mantis is quite the crowd-pleaser after the sun goes down!

Flamingo Wildlife Habitat

You don’t need to leave the desert just to see some tropical birds. True to its name, the Flamingo Hotel has a Flamingo Wildlife Habitat for a flock of Chilean flamingos, Ring Teal ducks, Sacred Ibis, swans, turtles, and a pair of pelicans.

The habitat is open every day from sunup to sundown, and free to explore. If you want to see the pelican feedings, they happen at 8:30 am and 2:00 pm.

If you have a nature-loving kid, this is the perfect breath of fresh air from the loud casinos. You’ll also have some great Instagram opportunities.
