Ich habe zwei Führungen in London mitgemacht, eine Geisterführung und eine Führung in der City of London, also dem alten Teil der Stadt. Es werden aber noch andere Führungen angeboten. Das schöne ist, dass man zwar einen Platz reservieren muss (geht manchmal noch sm selben Morgen) aber bezahlt wird erst nach der Führung und nur das, was es einem Wert war. Es gibt auch etliche Videos auf Youtube, die man sich als Vorgeschmack anschauen kann. Die meisten Führungen werden zwar ausschließlich in Englisch angeboten aber es gibt wohl auch manchmal Führungen auf Deutsch. Margaret was funny and personable often chatting with the others in the group as we walked from place to place. All the history she shared was fascinating and interesting. Always willing to answer questions from the group and individually. She wore a headset and was easy to hear and had a flag for us to see when we followed her. Our group was larger than usual as one of the tour guides was sick that day and we had to combine tours, but it was still a comfortable size and didn't feel cramped. I also love that this is a pay-what-you-like tour. The tour guides keep all of what they receive and of course that's an incentive for them to engage with the group. I saw several other tour groups walking around London and all I could think was how miserable the guides looked. At the end, I was MORE than happy to give Margaret a large tip which was still much less than two of use would have spent on a traditional tour. On September 3rd, 1939 the United Kingdom declared war on Germany. Over a year later on the 7th of September 1940, London was at the receiving end of Germany's ‘Lightning’ (the Blitz).

For 56 out of the next 57 days and nights, London would be reduced to rubble, but not Londoners, who "Kept Calm and Carried On."

This tour will take you back in time to one of London's most defining periods. You will learn all about the Blitz and London during the 'phony war.'

You'll walk past damaged remains such as Christopher Wren's lost Grey Friar, and miraculously saved icons such as St. Paul's Cathedral.

Together with your guide, you'll uncover hidden treasures that were unearthed during the war and you'll learn who was responsible for the rebuilding of our city.

Expect memorial gardens, harrowing tales, heroic deeds, and tragic losses.

This tour will uncover the behind-the-scenes world of London at war, revealing how these terrifying events have reshaped and rebuilt the city that we know today.
