TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IN CHARLESTON IN JUNE
This section features our top 10 activities to enjoy in Charleston throughout June. Whenever possible, we will make note of attractions and events that are free, family-friendly or great after dark.

1. Sweetgrass Festival
Head to the Mt. Pleasant Memorial waterfront park to enjoy the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival. A celebration of the Gullah People’s history and sweetgrass basket-weaving art, the festival will also include children’s activities, Lowcountry foods, arts & crafts vendors, and live entertainment.

2. See a Concert
June brings plenty of concerts to Charleston. Below is a list of performers passing through the city:

3. Take a Tour!

4. Party at the Point!
Every Friday in June you can enjoy a fun happy hour concert series at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Families can bring beach chairs, blankets, and their dancing shoes! Food and drinks are available for purchase.

5. Piccolo Spoleto Festival
May 24- June 9, 2019
The southern offshoot of the international Spoleto festival heads to Charleston through June 9th. Days packed with live music, visual arts, theatre, dance, and children’s programs make it fun for people of all ages!

6. Summer of Harry Potter
June 10, 2019
Come to the Charleston Music Hall June 10th for the opening day of a magical art display. Artwork in the upstairs gallery space will be Harry Potter themed, and you can peruse them in your best wizarding costume as dressing up is encouraged!
The art exhibit will be free to the public and will showcase over 20 artists.
Keeping with the theme, the Music Hall will also be showing all eight Harry Potter films in a hall transformed into the Wizarding World. Film showings will begin at 7pm and cost $8/person (you can purchase a pass to see all 8 for $50).
7. Watch a Duck Race
June 1, 2019
Adopt a rubber duck for a good cause and race across Smythe Park Lake in the Charleston Duck Race this year. This event benefits 30 charities and is hosted by the local Rotary club.
The first 7 ducks win prizes but everyone’s a winner at this event when you come to cheer on the ducks and enjoy the kickoff concert for the “Sounds of Summer” concert series. The event is free and geared towards everyone with activities for all ages.

8. Attend a Rum Festival
June 22, 2019
Charleston RumFest is a celebration of rum! This festival features 20 global distilleries and special cocktails to go with the food of 15 local chefs.
Tickets can be purchased here for an event full of fun pirate-themed entertainment. The event takes place at Memminger Auditorium at 7pm.
9. Watch a Game
Soccer fan or not, watching the Charleston Battery is a fun evening activity for people of all ages! With a variety of games in the month of June, the team’s stadium on Daniel Island will be full of energy and excitement.

10. Tourist Discount Pass
Do more for less by planning ahead with the Tourist Discount Pass. With this pass, you can get several tickets to attractions or tours each day for free. Tourist discount passes work by bundling multiple tickets into one price, usually between 20%-50% the retail price.

Reggae Nights Summer Concerts
Set in a beautiful setting at James Island County Park, Reggae Nights concert series brings a plethora of both old and new school reggae music to those in attendance. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and get ready for a night under the southern stars! Food and beverages are available for purchase.

Nighttime at the Museum
History comes alive during the annual nighttime at the museum at the Charleston Museum. The event features historical re-enactors, special displays and crafts, and exciting scavenger hunt among other things. Food and beverages are included in the ticket price.

Sunset at Fort Sumter
Soak up the warm summer breeze and experience a unique way to tour Fort Sumter with a sunset tour! Cruises leave the dock at 5pm and return at 7:30pm with a tour of the property in between during the golden hour.

Jazz on the Harbor
June 7, 2019
Come out to the Charleston Harbor to enjoy some jazz! The open-air concert is hosted by the South Carolina Aquarium and it a great way to enjoy music while exploring the exhibits. Keep yourself fueled with small plates from The Atlantic Room, Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar, Grace & Grit, and others.

June 21-23, 2019
In honor of Caribbean American heritage month, partake in the free Charleston Carifest. Three days of activity culminate with a Carnival-style Carifest street parade on Saturday, June 22nd. Additionally, festival-goers can enjoy a party in the park with reggae music, dancers, Caribbean food, games, and costumes.

Second Sunday on Kings Street
June 9, 2019
Stroll the numerous unique shops on King Street the second Sunday in June and also enjoy food & wine (for purchase), great sales, pop-ups, and product launches. With plenty to see and do this is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Walk the Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge
Opened in 2005, the beautiful Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge connects downtown Charleston with Mt. Pleasant. Offering stunning views of the harbor, the bridge also features a pedestrian path that is 2.5 miles (4 km). If a five miles round trip seems like too much just walk halfway and turn around!

Celebrate Father’s Day!

Enjoy a day celebrating Dad! Check local restaurants for brunch and menu specials or take Dad out for a day under the sea at the South Carolina Aquarium where all dads will receive complimentary admission on Father’s Day.
Check out Sullivan’s Island
Take the family to Sullivan’s Island for a day of fun in the sand–beautiful ocean views await! Make sure to also see Fort Moultrie, one of the oldest forts along the eastern seaboard that’s still standing and the Sullivan’s Island lighthouse, one of the most modern lighthouses in the US.
Visit the Angel Oak Tree
Standing at nearly 67 feet tall, the Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be between 400-500 years old! That makes it one of the oldest living things in the United States! Located on Johns Island, the Angel Oak Tree is a must-see!

Mace Brown Museum
This free Natural History Museum at the College of Charleston houses over 15,000 fossils that have been collected from around the globe. Additionally, the museum houses a world-class exhibit on fossil whales. The museum is open daily (except Wednesdays) from 11am-4pm.
